What's going on in NoVA? =D

Well, I froze my butt off on saturday at a local pond. Threw a jig and shakey head around for about an hour with no bites. I was flicking the ice out of my guides every ten minutes, but besides that it was nice to get out.

Haven't been bass fishing since October. Too busy trying to shoot animals. I bought a couple of Silver Buddy lures a couple of months ago that have not seen water yet--and they'll have to wait until I get 50 degree day when I don't have to work. Now the only question is where to try them at.

I hear you about not fishing since Oct Vekol, except I've been busy with college :-/. In fact I should be studying for finals at the moment but thats not going so well. I want to get out over Xmas break, it sounds pretty hit and miss though. For some of you that fish the Potomac in the winter, what areas are you looking for and are the Silver Buddies as necessary for success as they sound?

As you might have gathered, I'm not much of a cold weather fisherman. Most times I've tried it, I've had fairly meager results. I asked some guys who claimed to have done it successfully, and they recommended the Silver Buddy lure. Well, I've heard that jigging spoons were the way to go from other sources as well.

As for where, try the Occoquan river. It has some deep water holes where the fish concentrate--and the key to successful spoon fishing is finding large concentrations. Or you can try waiting for a warm spell and fishing shallow cover on the northern banks of a river or lake. I have had some success doing that in the winter. Slow roll spinnerbaits in and around laydowns. Drop shot rigs work well too.

Matt, got your pm but for some reason it says that i'm banned from the forum...........weird..........didn't think i ticked anyone off. anyway, i have a map that i found that has a bunch of info on it, once again, if i can find it i'll make you a copy!!Saturday is my day this week-end to fish so i'm gonna be back at Burke to give it another go. caught a 2 3/4 lber at Lake Braddock this afternoon on a jb ghost minnow 78, very surprising because of the receint cold. i'll give you a call if my plans change and i'm able to get out Sunday.

Okay Jon, sounds good to me. I believe you're banning was probably a mistake by the forums. Try to contact one of the moderators and they'll help you out.

Mind if the yaker's come along? Simon and I are thinkin of hitting up Burke to see if we can learn a thing or two and hopefully catch some fish.

Ya, ya guys mind if we tag along? burke has always been pretty much a skunk-hole for me ><

learning a thing or 2 would be nice!

how polite!!!! you guys will never need my permission to fish the same place as i am ever.  i always say the more the merrier.  i'm gonna launch from the second entrance at about 7:30-8:00.  i'll be more than happy to show you guys a bunch of places.  Andrew, you got a graph right??? just look for the drop-offs and deeper shorelines and pay close attention to the graph.  if you come accross a large amount of bait or fish in general on the graph, mentally note where you went over them and make some casts.  a lot of these fish are really ganged up in certain spots.  if you mark them you can usually catch a couple.

Awesome, we'll probably be out there around the same time. I'm still gettin used to reading charts so this trip will be beneficial regardless if fish are caught.

I hope our kayak drive systems don't freeeze :o.

Shoot...never thought of that...should be an interesting trip if they do =D

Piece of advice fellas, little itty bitty differences can change your outing completely, good or bad. Take those $3 pack of hand warmers, get them hot and sit on them to keep that *** warm.

Yea I got a whole box full of those, hand size, large size and toe warmers. Got waders, base layers, thick hiking socks, water proof gloves, and even self heating cups of coffee!

It was tough, cold, windy, and, did I mention tough? Simon and I got skunked and not sure how Jon did after we left.

The wind kept blowing me around and it was hard to position myself anywhere. I did learn a lot from Jon though and appreciate the knowledge he shared with us. Hopefully, my next outting on Burke will produce fish.

Aside from Simon, Jon, and I there was one other boat on the water.

That's too bad, it was REALLY cold Saturday. I'm heading down to Gaston this weekend for a tournament if I don't end up going to NY with my girlfriend, but I'll let you know how I do.

1 very small bass(8 in) on a drop shot and a bunch of short strikes.  nice to have met Andrew and Simon, wish the results could have been a bit more rewarding!!supposed to be warmer all week, maybe another shot this week-end, if I don't go to lake x.

not sure about the Fountainhead schedule as Mikey has quite a bit on his plate with the baby due right around the time we hold the first tx. about Burke next week-end, i'll let you know if im gonna get out there. we also have to consider the weather for the week as it's gonna get cold by the end of the week. hope it doesn't freeze!!! if you can Matt, find a copy of a map of Burke and i will mark some of the piles that i know of.

I still owe Mickey one after he pulled Gerkin and I out of the drink awhile back............Maybe a gift certificate? Any ideas?

I know for a fact that he is a tackle warehouse freek

so did you guys fish multiple brushpiles at Burke or a single brushpile?  How long were you guys out?

Maybe a gift card for TW, that will work.

ptomac bass, i was out form 8am till 3pm and fished 4 brush piles. wanted to get a bite going but was a bit breezy and water temp was 39. might try again on Sat. will report back with my results. flippin', i was up right after you guys got back into Dan's boat and were trying to retrieve a Loomis was it??? you two looked a bit pekid after that scare and swim!! Mikey is not the type of guy who seeks attention or accolaids for doing what I know was the right thing . all the same i'm sure he would be very happy with a gift card.
