Tallahassee/North Florida fishing

Featured Replies

Alright guys, I'm going nuts up here. I'm used to West Palm where there was a lake every 1/2 mile. Here, I'm having trouble finding places where I can bank fish. Can anyone help me out? All I have fished is MacClay Gardens, off the dock.

Can anyone tell me where else I can legally go fish without a boat?

Have you cruised into Alabama or Georgia yet?  Try Google Earth and see if that helps.  I know the St. Johns river but that's a bit of a drive for ya.

No, I don't want to have to worry about out of state licenses. I've google earth'd the area but it's hard to tell what property is legal to fish.

If you don't get a butt full of rock salt then you know you're ok.

Nice. But you're posting bail.

I think people like fishing live bait at the Lake Talquin boat ramp, if your into that.  I'm not sure where there is enough room to fish artificials.

Live bait= boring. I have decided to head to St. Marks tomorrow and see how it is there.

My family and I are thinking of going to Lake Talquin this spring, is there anywhere to stay that can accommodate like 18 people?  I saw the lodge there but there is only 4 rooms and they look kinda small, and how about renting a boat to fish out of?  Don't know how well you know the area, any help would be great.

Sorry I don't know any specifics about this.  A quick google of Talquin rentals listed a place that sleeps 14...also I'm unsure about renting a boat but I think it is probably possible, I would call the marina on Talquin.  Sorry I got no info...

I am in Crawfordville, Florida and having the same problem. I have already told the wife to plan on budgeting in a new boat. Some friends have told me that there is a few lakes and creeks in the Apalachicola National Forest but from my short drive through there a 2wd truck isn't going to work.

I dont know about bank fishing but Talquin was one beautiful lake, and I smoke em the first and only time I went there.

So that is a pretty desperate situation fishing Maclay Gardens dock...

There is one place I shore fish from sometimes. It is off of Maclay Rd. and is a small drainage pond about 2-3 acres big. It is directly behind the Fresh market and you have to go through the woods to get there, but it is visible from Maclay road. It is only maybe a quater mile from the entrance to Maclay gardens on the left side of the road. Anyways I used to always see cars parked there so one day I stopped and walked the shore, I saw a few 3-4 lbs bass while walking around. It is severely covered with hydrilla so it is tough to fish but I have caught bass there. I either flip a senko or use a topwater frog or buzzbait. And you might know better then me how to catch them in such slop. Anyways try it out, its got to be better then Maclay gardens dock.

I have also heard good things about walking the shore at the lakes in summerbroke. The only thing is that there are signs everywhere saying residents only. But if you are older ppl probably wont question you, they see a college kid and assume im breaking things or disrespecting property. Also you can park your car at the Summerbroke country club so its not obvious.

EDIT* i missed the part where you said legally.  The drainage pond is completely legal, it just looks like it may be part of the private neighborhood.  Summerbroke...well its up to you, how desperate are you?  ;D
