I am thinking of a spring trip some where south to warm up. Possibly Virginia. Any with ideas on a lake with access and a good time as far as the bite picking up?

There are many great places in Va to spend a little time in the spring.  If you are after a hawg then check out Briery Creek Lake.  It's 800 acres of THICK standing timber and numberous 10+ pound bass come from here every spring.  It's a 10hp and hunder lake but a trolling motor on a bass boat works fine there.

If you want to get out on a good piece of water that produces the most va state citation (8lb+) bass then visit Lake Anna.  It's just north of Richmond with 13,000 acres.

For numbers I'd have to recommend Buggs Island.  Miles and miles of great fishing.  Boat traffic is here is nothing.  The crappie and catfishing here is also about as good as it gets.

I would suggest Buggs or Gaston both are on the Va/NC border so chances of getting really bad weather in late March or early April are slim.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Now to be on subject. What part of VA are you talking about going to? There are numerous small bodies of water southwest of Roanoke with most of the larger bodies of water north of Roanoke. Of course you could always hire Burley's Guide Service and see more dinks than you ever thought existed in one body of water.

Falls Lake just North of Raleigh, N.C. is another place for big fish and numbers.

edited: I forgot to mention that you could get a N.C. fishing license and fish Falls Lake, Lake Gaston, and Buggs Island with it and all are less than an hour apart.

Try Lake Anna or the Potomac River

The Florida strain bass are doing great in the Chick River.

We have to go to the Chick, you and I, this summer.

We will have to make plans; put in at Rock-A-Hock and fish the Chick River.

I know. I'm just teasing. Chick River, Morris Creek and the Lake are my special places. My personal best came out of Chick Lake. When I die, I want my ashes scattered there.
