Hey guys, April was fantastic!  May has been a bit tough, JVM and I will be out on the 11th to tear'em up.  See you out on the Rez!

Nice catch! I've been meaning to get out on the rez for the first time in 2009 but haven't had a chance to yet!

Andrew, 2009 is halfway over!  Pull yourself together bro and make it happen!

Yeah it's been a tricky year with global cooling, rain as of late and all that.  It's only the beginning tho.

TRE and I promise to slay 'em tomorrow.  We'll post-up afterwards.

Anyone been out lately?

I wasn't able to get out in April, but my last two trips I've really struggled. Yesterday the water was very stained. Tried cranks, spinnerbaits, worms, jigs, creature baits, and tubes with no luck. Hopefully the weather will stabilize and fishing will pick back up, for me at least ;D

Don't remind me...  :'(

My other hobbies are consuming a lot of my time and there seems to be a large number of weddings this year too  >:(

No worries, I'll catch up  ;D

Can't wait to hear your report!

I fished there yesterday for about 9 hours, caught one fish!  Fishing was really tough!  Water was very stained, about 6" of visibility tops!  It was overcast with a few showers in the morning, and the wind made boat control a pain! I only landed one small 1 pound LMB male, by friend did the same.  Threw a 1/2oz Chart/White KVD Double Willow spinner tight to cover.

Fished the rez about 2 weeks ago and hooked up to a few quality fish early in the day one 4-5 pound pre-spawn female and a few  2-3 pound males.

Not sure where the fish are in the spawn, but man it was tough fishing yesterday!

Andrew... You can still smoke your left handed cigarettes and fish at the same time. :o ;D

SLOMOE... You were on the rez yesterday too? We probably passed eachother??? Same with Basser.

So the day was def. slow. Pretty much no action whatsoever till about 10am, at which time we both managed a few misses. I lost my only taker when she got stuck behind some sticks. Sad part is that she felt like she very well may have been my biggest one yet. She was thrashin. Anyway, for the better news...

TRE show'd me up again. I am glad someone on the team seems to be picking up their game and improving with every cast. He managed 2 decent 2+ lbers with a miss or two himself. If any of you get the chance to fish with him, he is sure to teach you something new, be careful though, he talks enough crap to make Charlie Moore shut his mouth!!!

So the pics...

Wow thats a whole lot of crap talking! ;D

Well its good to hear that someone had some luck, I thew everything and the kitchen sink and still almost got skunked.

I'm heading back out on the water Friday after a trip to Green Top and Bass Pro down in Ashlawn tomorrow.  Hopefully the water settles, but with the forecast calling for storms Thursday looks like another tough day of fishing.  I'll post any results.

Lol...  Thanks for the kind words JVM!  That Charlie Moore is quite a character.  The water was tough, the only thing that seem to work was multiple casts, tight to cover.  Muddy water is hard to fish and breaksdown confidence in a hurry.  I'm appriciative of the rain though, I definitly don't want to see a summer like 2007!  The Rez became a pond that summer.  Looking forward to hear how you do on Friday another siteer.

No prob TRE. Yeah, truth is he makes Charlie Moore look like Mary Tyler Moore! But unlike Ol' Charlie, TRE catches fish so cant complain.

Best of luck on Friday Basser. I'll be down in Central Tex for a few days. I pray i get to go out and do some hawgin but it is supposed to be T-storms the entire time! Got my eye on this private pond out there! If I catch anything I'll post some pics... FAR away from the trespassing sign. ;) LOL. J/K LBH.

might want to check your directions before you leave for Greentop and Bass Pro. They are in Ashland, not Ashlawn.  ;D

Man...was hoping for better news when searching for threads on the rez.  :( Heading there tomorrow for the first time this year.  Will post up after.

I'll try to keep it short and to the point....

Launched around 6:30a, but no action until 9:30a and turned off pretty much around 11:30a.  Looks like the theme for today was Chartreuse Spinners and Chatterbaits.  Boat was sitting anywhere between 8-15ft of water throwing to shore targeting large laydowns, swimming right in the middle of them and through the branches.  All fish came off the main channel, 5 in the boat with that much in hook ups, but shake offs.  Fish were all in the 1.5lb - 2.5lb range. Water was stained with visibility at around 1.5ft-2ft.  Water temp was upper 60's rising as the day progressed.  All our catches were before the full sun came from behind the clouds.  Hope this helps if you plan on going out soon.

Thanks for the report.

Never made it to the rez, instead I fished Burke lake and wrote up a little report in the Burke Lake thread.  I'll hit the rez soon, hopefully when the water is settled and not chocolate milk.

Pre-fished the rez for a few hours today. Depending on where you were, there was clear water to be found. Got on a good bite early and boated 6 keepers, broke off a couple pigs.

  • 2 weeks later...

Anyone have any better luck on the Occoquan?  Was there a few weeks ago and didn't do to well.  I figured the water should be getting a little warmer now.  Let me know if anyone has been pullin' any out!!!!
