Pickwick Trip

Featured Replies

Just finished up a two day trip at Pickwick. Launched from the Pickwick state park and headed up toward the Alabama/Mississippi border. Tried the humps with shakey heads and chigger craw, x-raps, spinnerbaits, texas rigged yum worms, and float-n-fly...

Fished hard and only caught two fish. About a 2 lb largemouth and a yellow perch.

Current was running toward the dam too.

Someday I'll figure out these smallies!

We don't have yellow perch in Pickwick. It might

have been a sauger, they're in the same family.

When the TVA shuts the flood gates, fishing will

pick up. However, the lake is very tough in winter.

Your best bet is fishing the river below the dam.

Maybe we can get together and I'll show you around.

Really?

That's news to me, but I've been wrong before!

p.s.

Welcome aboard!

That's one heck of a brown fish in your avatar.

Yes, my son caught one there about 10 years ago in Panther creek. West Tennessee, don't give up on the Tennessee river.  Road Warrior is right about that area being tough in the winter. It is the same above Wilson dam for me. I normally fish one to two miles below the dam and do OK this time of year.

I too have caught a couple of yellow perch in & around the Waterloo area of the main river, one, this past fall. Rare, but they are out there.
