nice fish. glad you were rewarded...

Very nice fish!!!! That's one body of water I've been dying to get my kayak back on.

Good catch. I have been there only twice before - caught a few the second time but nothing decent. What did you catch it on? From shore?

Nice fish.    If I'm not mistaken, Rondef pulled a 4-5lber out of there last year. I'm sure there are some biguns in there.

My biggest from this lake is a 6.25lb, there are some under water points when fished properly will reward anglers with a hawg.  I have caught 5 fish over 5lbs here and at least 25 between 3 & 4 pounds.

Since this place is one of the few small lakes left in northern VA that isn't super-overpressured, how about we not mention it by name on here?

I don't agree with this. I used to fish this place a lone on weekends, now I share the bank with at least 5.

Isn't one of the purposes of this site to share information?

Also I generally find it not crowded, occassionally one or two other fishermen but never seen five at a time.

Caught it from shore with an *** plastic worm (4 in, pumpkinseed)

I agree, it used to be about sharing information, but that was a few years ago.

There is still plenty of information being shared but a lot of it is being done face-to-face, through PMs, or between people who have actually met.

Guys-

I wasn't trying to start a territory war here. I'm all for sharing info, but prudently. This is the type of place that deserves a code name, much like that other NoVa sweet spot that got a pseudonym last winter.

And yes, it isn't crowded now. Wait until the meat fishermen, midnight drunks, hand-liners, teenage dope smokers, and other sundry losers find out.

Hahahahaaa...I recall going out there one morning around 0600 and lets just say I interrupted some action at the dam. Not that they seemed to mind I was there.  :o

Anyway, I have to get my yak out to Mercer sometime soon.

First post dudes. I've fished Mercer a few times with limited success, probably because I was drunk and doping.

A basser from B-more? There are no bass in Baltimore, just drunks in the park who beat stray dogs.

Someone get me a crab cake.

Hahahahahahaaaa...great first post. Welcome to the site.

Lures that have worked for me at Mercer:

1. Lipless cranks

2. T-rig 10" Power Worms (Black Grape and Motor Oil)l

3. Swimming Senko (pumpkinseed)

welcome aboard.

you should quit. hangovers are usually not worth it. stick with the latter.

Thanks for the warm welcome gents.  To properly introduce myself, my name is Alex.  I worked at the Galyan's,  now Dick's sporting goods in Fairfax, for about 4 years off and on throughout college through the years of 2000-2004. Chances are that I spooled up a few reels of yours throughout that time and informed you of the lures that only worked kind of well around the Northern Virginia area.  My home lake was Burke Lake, and I pulled a few sowbellys out of there, but I have moved up to Baltimore a few years ago which stunted my hog hunting career.  I still fish VA waters frequently and love the Potomac River for it's numbers and size of fish. I fish with that jerk bag basscrusher often and despite his pro baby seal clubbing and secretive ways, he is still a skillful angler and is a wealth of knowledge and information.  I hope to share my learning's and success with you all throughout the time on the board here.  Tight lines, and if you any of you can replace the back of my sweet 94' Nitro with basscrusher please make is soon rather than later.
