I know this is embarassing but....

Featured Replies

I just got into throwing jigs recently. The past couple of days I have made it the only thing I threw. Well, it has paid off. I have been slamming them. It is a GREAT lure to use, but it takes time to learn and build up the patience and confidence. But with each fish you catch on one, the more skill and confidence you get. Just visualize what you feel on the bottom as you work the jig. Good luck!

Well I'm not ABSOLUTELY clueless, I know how to fish one, but it just doesn't seem to produce on the lake I fish. I fish every time like I would fish a tournament: I won't fish something that doesn't work because I need my limit. I guess I should just slow it down and practice... the problem is... my buddies have NEVER outfished me on the lake and I'm afraid that if I practice while they are with me they'll steal my bragging rights! >;)   I'll get over it though

if you school them every time, your friends should know who is better, even if they beat you once. Besides, just tell them that youre learning something new. Maybe youll catch a new PB and further your bragging rights

30 yrs ago, I started using the football jig w/Uncle Josh pork trailer especially @ nite, Caught lots of NICE fish. Now I hardly ever use one because they just don't produce with plastic as well, so now I'm reading how everyone is producing good catches on plastic trailers all the time? I'm not giving up this yr tho. BTW, What is the shelf/usable life of Uncle Josh pork? Mine is yrs old. / swiff

It is not embarrassing!!

If we all knew everything, we wouldn't be on here.

I have baits that I have confidence in, spinnerbaits, shallow cranks, jerkbaits. Then I have the ones I am intimidated by, jigs being one of them. Do what I am doing..read up on techniques, watch videos, and then go fish!! The more you practice, the more in your comfort zone you will be. I don't ever plan on being a world class jigga!!! As long as I know if I have to, I can use the bait. IMO

Hope this helps,

Alan (bassnajr)

PS

For you golfers or former golfers:

A jig setup is like a lob wedge, a pain to learn to use, but boy when you learn how to use it WOW!!!  ;)

I just started fishing Jig N Pigs and all of my bites have been the "Im taking you out to the deep end with me!" I have yet to master plastics and feeling bites but the more I go, the better I become I suppose.
