Seriously though, we went out today.  My son and I caught 6 in 3 hours, the largest was about 3 lbs, all but one on purple 4" weightless senkos T-rigged on Gammy 2/0 EWG.  I missed the hookset on at least that many more.  I also lost 3 of my beloved senkos to a rabid bowfin.  

This is the first year I've fished weightless senkos in earnest.  Now I'm kicking myself for not trying them sooner.    

Get that rabid bowfin outta teh way with a spinnerbait next time,lol.

Congrats on the bass though.

I prefer the 6 and 7 inch senkos myself.  Weeds out the dinks and gets some nicer fish for me usually.

Congratulations on the fine day you and your son had. Hope this Sunday will be as nice for my son and I!! Those Senkos are a "hard to beat bait". I'm hoping to prove RW correct and cash in on a few big'uns with my Fat Ikas soon!!

I would say the 4" senko probably IS the greatest bass lure in history, except in murky water.

Agreed that is an awesome bait. Caught plenty on the 4 inch and 5 inch.

I've tried them before, wacky rigged on a Gammy finesse hook, but I have trouble setting the hook.  I haven't a clue what I'm doing wrong.  

They kill on the ponds around here.

I'm a senko type bait fishing fanatic!!!! I generally fish a 5" senko, kinami wave, or dinger wacky rigged. Only Texas if an absolute must because of super heavy cover. But id rather loose a few baits because i ctch fish about 2 to 1 fishing wacky vs. texas rigged. I used to fish only Senkos but Kinamis and Dingers are also quite good. today I went out to a local pond for an hour and caught 4 fish in 45 min

Detecting the hit isn't really the problem, it's that I'm yanking the bait out of the fishes mouth that stumps me.

I'm going to give wacky rigging another go in a few days.  

If you are using a circle hook (finesse hook?) you don't have to set the hook. Fish will usually hook themselves, just lift the rod to add a little pressure when you feel a bite & reel them in. It's worth a try.

Yep , this is the best hook i have ever used for wacky rig. You can have weighted of the same type from the same brand as well 8-)

The 4" version doesn't have as pronounced of a wiggle on the fall like the 5" version, but no doubt gets more bites.  I think the 4" Senko T-rigged mimics a baitfish gliding through the water like a fat slider.  For this reason the two 4" versions I stock are watermelon/cream laminate to imitate shad and cinnamon/purple flake to mimic bluegill.

How are you supposed to set the hook with these?  Do you let the fish do it like ow with octopus hooks, or actually set them yourself?

wow i don't know what you can be doing wrong to not be setting the hook....

the reason i started wacky rigging was because my sister wouldn't ever set the hook hard enough to get a hookup when t-rigging them.....

maybe you are yanking it out of their mouths....i use those same hooks...well the non weedless version. and all i really do is reel up the slack and sort of lift up my rod tip. i don't really give it a snap, just a "quick" pick up from 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock, kind of like a hook set when panfishing w/ bait.

i don't know if that makes any sense or not.... :-?

here, the males are all up in some lakes and are not really eating it, just moving it from the beds.

caught 32 lm yesterday on a 4", including a 6.2#...but, i must have missed a dozen more due to the moving off thing.

bream will pick 'em up, as well.
