What's a Stick bait?

Featured Replies

yep also called cigar baits

Actually, a senko is a stick "worm", not a "stickbait".

It used to be, when anglers spoke of a "stickbait" (one word), they were referring to a "plug" with no action of its own, like a Zara Spook.

But I realize that the meaning has gotten convoluted over time.

This is a picture of my favorite one: RAPALA ORIGINAL FLOATING #11

Nah, that used to be called a "Twitchbait" (how soon they forget) ;D

You are 100% right . Thats what I was taught a long time ago, now the retailers all list them as stick baits. I got my first one from the hardware store on the NY side of Greenwood lake, across from the movie theater . Mr. Brickner got it for me, for cleaning up his docks. 8-)

Dom I found the link below, it shows the original stickbaits that you and I remember.

They were mostly walking lures but propbaits like the devil's horse were sometimes included too

I remeber two: The Floating Rouge and the Rebel Mystic minnow, no props , really long ,thin stick baits.

Well, you guys are right, but to answer the question as it relates to "commom usage", stickbaits are usually Senko style soft plastics.

Or maybe not:

I think Bang-O Lure, Rapala Floater, and Rebel Minnows as stickbaits or pencil baits.

I think of Senkos and the Knockoffs simply as 'senkos'.
