GYCB Fat Ika

Featured Replies

I was wondering how many people use these successfully. I went to Cabelas this morning and looked and looked for them but couldnt find them in the store. I asked a few guys that worked there and they have never even heard of them. I guess il order them online. How do you fish it? I've heard rigging it backwards does the trick but just wanted a little more incite, thanks.

Roadwarrior has lots of luck with these, he's the guru if you need help.  I've caught a few fish on them but they only seem to catch the small ones.... :;)  ;D :) (poke poke RW,lol) (couldn't resist)

I love um......

use a big hook..

4/0,, 5/0.. EWG....

rig either direction.,.

I have been out there when 1 way worked & the other did not..

always try rigging both ways..

fish um slow.. across the bottom.. mix up the retrieve,,

hang on to the rod  !!!   :)

I've been throwing Fat Ikas rigged backwards as per RW's recommendations every trip out with no success yet, BUT I do expect to catch something BIG eventually. The bite has been painfully SLOW on anything I've used the last several trips so I don't think it's that the FIs aren't going to be a producer!

The Fat Ika has a different profile and action than a Senko,

which makes it another alternative to be fished exactly

in situations where you might fish the stickbait. Otherwise, I

fish both lures with the same cast and retrieve.

My wife and I use the Ikas as our go to bait. They work just as well forward or backward. As mentioned, use a 4-0 or 5-0 EWG hook and T-rig them texposed. It is an awesome bait and about any color will work althought I still love the watermelon w/red flake.

Fat Ika is diffrent from just an Ika correct? My local sportsman just had Ikas in white color I think. I could not find a 'fat Ika'

I plan to go back for some bulk pack of the Gammy 4/0 Hooks later this week though.

Cabela's has the Gary Yamamoto Saltwater 4" Fat Ika. Is this the Fat Ika this list talks about?

I love the Fat Ika.  I fish my weightless backwards and with a 5/0 G-Lock Gamakatsu hook.  My favorite color is black with blue flake.  I fish like a Senko but I have also had success fishing it like a jig, just bouncing it off the bottom.  I guess it just depends on how the fish are biting.

this is a lure i have had no success with despite my desire to make it produce...gotta keep trying i guess.

I had a good bite on one of these over the weekend...only the take by the fish was so subtle I missed the hookset cause I went to twitch the bait off the bottom and all I felt was dead weight...

Needless to say I farmed this fish...

When you get bite on this, are they very subtle takes or are they inhaling these baits?

OR is this more so just dependent on the fishing conditions at the time?

The bite can be subtle when the bait is falling. If you are working it off

the bottom, the bite is almost always the typical soft plastic, "tap-tap."

Use a snap set to hook the fish, as you would with any other soft

plastic. The bait is "Magical", the technique is not.
