Rodriguez leaving West Virginia to coach Michigan

Well, what can I say, another one falls for the almighty dollar. I don't guess $12 million is enough? This really shocked me because his dream was to coach at WV. He is an alumni of WV and was very respected. I don't even think he is going to coach the Fiesta Bowl.

Sadly, that's starting to be the trend all of the coaches are following.

I just can't believe it, I'm still in shock.  I told my wife and had to pull it up on the computer to get her to believe it.  My wife is a very small person, like 4'11" small.  When I showed her I kindly stepped to the side to get out of her way.  I think she is taking it worse than I am.

Michigan has taken two of WVU's coaches. They also hired the basketball coach to replace Tommy Amaker this season.

He is the most downright, horrible, atrocious jerk ever.  His words of "I'll never leave my alma mater" are meaningless.  He should never set foot in West Virginia again.

C'mon Jimzee, are you really telling me that if a more presitigious job opened up in your line of work that would pay you more money you wouldn't take it?

Yeah, I probably would, but that's the funny part.

WV salary per year: 2 million

Michigan salary per year: 2.4 million

Cost to buy his way out of WV contract: 4 million

Taking 10 years to break even with what you already have: PRICELESS!!

His ego is just too big for WV.

I hope he gets crushed at Michigan.  What kind of sick jerk leaves their team hanging in the balance with a major BCS bowl berth after the team has worked so hard?

He is a downright traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor traitor...

oh, and a sellout too.  >:(

Now I don't have a dog in this fight, but I wonder if he feels that he has done as much with WV as possible.  Then again, I was raised that the only thing a man has in this world is his word and without that you have nothing. If he turned his back like that then I have no respect for the man.

Hey all you Mountaineer fans, I know how you feel as I and all other LSU fans had to live through the Saban lies and then his treason against LSU by going to Alabama after shafting the Dolphins.

But between us guys, I wonder what went on behind the scenes to have RR leave WVU?

Something must be brewing or he got a lot of flack from the Trustees, President, Athletic Director, etc. for blowing a very easily winnable game against Pit and making the BCS Championship Game.

In fact, us LSU fans were getting ready for an OSU vs. WVU game which would have been another Civil War between the two schools with a lot of heavy hitting and some nice choice words between the players.

There has to be more to the story than money or prestiege.  RR is a very highly respected coach and he would have a lot of years winning the Big East and playing in BCS and MNC games at West Virginia than he ever will at Michigan.

Stay tuned and let's see how this plays out.

It could be very interesting.

Someone made a point on another forum.  Perhaps Rodriguez had something to do with the possible job at Michigan before the Pittsburgh game, and that's why they weren't playing to their full potential?  Certainly not taking up for their loss, but it brings an interesting point about.

Troutfisher,

I don't think so.

Michigan was turned down by a lot of other coaches.

We think Miles used Michigan to get a better contract at LSU.

Somethink happened with RR's family or a rules violation or investigation or he thinks he is now too big for WVU.

But I doubt he thinks he is too big for WVU since he had turned down the Bama job last year which is the prestigious coaching position in the SEC.

It is baffling to me why someone who was considered to be a coaching legend would leave the school that has given him so much and go to a program that is floundering and even in a good season is second best at best in their conference.

Time will tell.

No disrespect to WVU or it fans, but its Michigan. I football trems it is one of the Holy Grails of football. They are to football what North Carolina, Kentucky, Duke and UCLA is to basketball. I don't blame him for leaving, he's getting more money and football has become big business. Just my opinion.

It is weird that he chose to leave his alma mater like that to go to Michigan, seems like he had it made there. And talk about pressure.....if he doesnt beat Ohio State on a regular basis, he'll be looking for another job quickly. Michigan alums dont really care what their overall record is for a season as long as they beat Ohio State and squeak into a bowl game.

And he's going to a tougher conference. He could've won the Big East title for the rest of his life at WVU, now he's got to rebuild a Michigan team in the BIG 10?? Plus, Michigan is always way over-rated to start each season, he'll be coaching against the polls from the get-go. The guy must like a good challenge.

Michigan paid for the buy out. I wish he would of stayed there. The Spread is a great offense but it sacrifices D and that is what UofM has always been is a tuff D. And the rest ofthe Big 10 is going to run all over the D now.

Sam, you speak words of wisdom. I now know how LSU fans felt after Saban. I have a new found respect for coaches that have some loyalty about them such as Les Miles. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I will be cheering for the Buckeyes when they play Michigan next year. This is about as blasphemous as it gets for me to say that. WVU is scheduled to play Michigan in a few years, that will be real interesting.

You think RichRod is paying for his own buyout?!?!!?  Um, no :)

I saw on ESPN that a he is claiming that he was lied to and that promises for his players and for the football program weren't met and that is why he left.  It is the same thing that John Beilein said to get his buyout brought down.  Now being a UK fan I don't have a dog in this fight but I find it kind of intresting that they both left saying the same thing.

Word out of New Orleans from my LSU insider said that another reason were the death threats he and his wife received after the Pitt loss.

One way or the other, for reasons we may never know, he is gone from an excellent program that he helped create.

Maybe WVU refused his request for a pay raise; better facilities; more tutoring for his players; pay increases for his assistant coaches; and who knows what he was asking for?

It will be interesting to see who WVU hires as their new head coach.
