Chatterbait?

Can anyone tell me about the Chatterbait? I was at Bass pro today and I picked one up. I don't know if you people have talked about this before , I am sure you did, but I can't find it. Any help would be cool.

It was last years hot bait.  They were backed up 1 to 2 months just to get one.  I believe that rad lures was the first company.  They were selling on ebay for something like $20-$30 each.  There like fishing a crankbait, spinnerbait, and a swimming jig all in one.  They create a lot  of vibration in the water.  Some tournament anglers won a couple of tournaments using the bait and it took off from there.

Thats the speedy version in a nut shell!!!!!!!!!!

what is the real name for this kind of bait? There are many other kinds of chatterbaits.

Well there is The Original Chatterbait that I assume is the original one from last year that started it all and then there is the booyah brand and a few other new brands that copy the design but have some differences the other brands I have found are Stan Sloan's Zorro® Baits Rattlin' Wing-Dings, then there is the Renosky® Chatterbait Swimming Jigs which has a different kind of blade and supose to have more vibration, the Booyah Chatterbait didnt get good reviews because it wire breaks a lot. the Gambler Swim Blade Jig is said to be good but is better top water from what I heard, I havent used one yet but I have one I plan to use tommorow and I have heard from a lot of good friends that it is a good bait.

I've used the Rad Lures Original Chatterbaits since around October and they are great. You can simply throw it out and reel it straight in or give it some crazy cadence. You can even jig it off the bottom if you wanted too. You have many options with the chatterbait. My only recommendation would be to use a heavy braid when fishing the chatterbaits. It throws off more vibration due to no stretch in the line. You can feel the bait working as soon as you crank, your rod just vibrates. I've had the most success with them by trying to burn the bait past the fish so they couldn't see it. Then all of a sudden your rod will just load up and they usually hook themselves. They catch both smallmouth and largemouth for sure, we don't have spots in Minnesota, but I'm assuming those are catchable also.

I laughed at them and told my buddie," just use a spinnerbait". I do not know what it is but, after he flipped about ten fish in his Skeeter in front of me I said give me one of those things, lol. We were on the Lower Potomac in Washington DC, not far from home, and we waxed them on this bait. I have since bought many and they are awesome on smallmouth on the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg PA as well. Buy some, they work well.

The chatterbait has much built in action, but don't stop there. replace the tailer that comes with the bait with any other trailer that you think will enhance the action. I really like to take off the skirt and trailer and put on a super fluke.

I feel it is just another bait in the old tackle box.  I still use mine from time to time.  They do catch fish when the bite is on.

It's the only new bait that I remeber catching fish on the first time I used it. I used a black widow eel instead of the stock trailer. One small bass jumped over a laydown to hit it. It's a productive lure. I have several in my box and I'm anxious to experiment with trailers and different presentations.

Tanks for all the input. Sounds like I better buy more!!!!!! ;D ;D :);)

My ChB story has been told before, but if you are now to them, it bears repeating.  I was fishing from bank on a small pond -- muddy water with lots of weeds- throwing a ChB -- I was watching the wake come of the lure when I noticed another wake comming out of the weeds and intercepted my ChB -- he wasn't a big fish and awful skinny -- then I noticed he was blind in both eyes but was still able to track down the ChB -- that is my story and I'm sticking to it ;)

Probably because it's a version of the spinnerbait, which I find boring to fish,

it's one of the ONLY new lures that didn't suck me in.
