Rant:  Got layed off

Featured Replies

Well, got layed off this morning.  I work, well, workED for Lincoln's largest home builder Hartland Homes.  As we all know, the housing market is in the crapper, and there was nothing more the owner could do to keep us employed and still make money.  It stinks, because i've been there for 6 1/2 years.  Oh well, on to new and hopefully better things.  Wish i could go wet a line to cheer me up, but with 12" of ice, it might be a problem.

Sorry to hear the bad news.

Maybe something better will come along.

Any thoughts on starting your own company?

When one door closes, another opens.  Keep your chin up buddy.  If a part time UPS shift would make a difference, let me know if I can help.

Trust me, I feel you.  Being in the mortgage business for the last 16 years, I feel your pain.

Realistically I don't see this market changing for a couple more years.  In fact, we havent hit bottom yet.  There are still all of the subprime loans that were taken out in '05 that have yet to adjust.

The worst is yet to come guys....

Exactly what I was thinking. You could look down the road 5 or 10 years from now and realize it was acctually a really good thing.

I am sorry for your current situation, another door will open. By the way Layoffs are happening where i woek, who knows  I may be soon to!

NEBassMan, If you are in the home construction business and are willing to re-locate, Oklahoma is crying for people.  The State recently enacted a VERY stringent law regarding illegal immigrants and it seems they have all melted away.  Housing contractors around here are desperate for people because, unlike many other parts of the U.S.of A, our economy is thriving.

Hey Redline could you be more specific on why you think it will get worse.  I'm not doubting you it's just I have a freind who's business relates to the housing market.  He seems to think that come spring time the market is just magically going to be better.  I keep trying to drive the point home that it just isn't going to happen over night but he seems to think so.  I could use some more ammo to back up my opinion.

Like he said the 2005 readjusts have not hit yet. This market is similar to the Late 70's recession market. Less orders and for the first time in decades the 07 market closed with double digit cancellation rates( Hey Rob Correct me if I am wrong here) for the 5 biggest house builders it was around 13%. The new housing , single unit market is in a mess right now and it will affect constuction jobs

The simplest way to say it is tighter lending guidelines, adjustable rates, and irresponsible lenders qualifying borrowers that never should of been given a loan in the first place.  Now they cannot get the same loan as before, rates adjust, they miss payments, and the bank forecloses...this is what is currently one of the largest burdens on the economy in the financial sector(Cliff note's version).   You want to see people losing their jobs, should of seen the subprime lender employees who are no longer employed.

God Bless Oklahoma!!!

I wish the rest of the country had some balls too.
