Highway All Season Truck Tire Recommendations

Featured Replies

Gentlemen,

Taking suggestions for highway tread light truck tires.

The guy who owned the truck prior to me must have not rotated the BFGoodrich Radial Long Trails T/A and the front tires are worn.  I rotated them and they still have some tread left, but will be replacing all 4 corners soon (22K).

I am considering the Michelin LTX M/S or the Toyo Open Country H/T

Most important considerations are tread wear and noise levels.

Thanks in advance.

22K miles and you're replacing? :-?

I had a set of Bridgestone dueler revo's. They are soft tread. The tread pattern is awfully cool and the tire itself is probably the best set of tires I've ever owned.

I have some nitto terra grapplers now. The only reason I got rid of the revo's is because I up-sized significantly.

Cooper Discoverer HT, my mom is going on 60K on her tires and her boyfriend has put 42K on his and they barely look worn.  The ATR is a little better as far as traction but louder also.

BF Goodrich All-Terrains.

I just took a set off of my truck. I got 60K out of them and they were a 35" tire on a full size truck. That was pretty impressive, IMO.

I work for Ampac Tire in the St. Charles, MO warehouse. Most of the tires mentioned are pretty good. The Discoverer line can be kinda hit and miss at times. The Bridgestone Dueler Revo line is an impressive tire. Michelin LTX M/S are good, but very pricey. Fourbizz hit the nail on the head. The BFG All-Terrain KOs are by far the best blend of performance, treadlife, and affordability, in my opinion. The only thing I can think of that may be considered a strike against them could possibly be riding noise, but thats all personal preference. If the tire is sticking to the road, wearing properly, and didn't cost me a bundle, then a little ride noise is a non-issue. Got BFG All terrain KOs on all my vehicles.

If you are not a fan of BFGs and want to go a different direction, Yokohama's Geolander, the aforementioned Bridgestone Revo, and Firestone Destination lines of tires are all also quality tires.

BF Goodrich Long Trail T/As.  I got over 60,000 miles out of the tires on my 1996 Explorer.   Compare the traction and temperature ratings to the Michelins, as well as the treadwear number.  Then compare price.  Bet the BFG will come out on top.

My last set of TA highway style tires were the Goodrich brand.  I got a touch over 70k miles out of them!!!!   :o

That said, they were OK tires in snow and wet.

The best tires I've ever owned were Dayton Timberline HT's.  Got over 60k out of those but the handling and traction on those was excellant in all road conditions.

Do you like to burn them? Seriously if you are replacing those tires in 22k then something might be up with your truck, how are they wearing?

As for a recommendation, I have BFG All Terrains on my Ranger. 26k on them and I would say they still have 65% of the tread on them.No snow issues, and they are good on nasty boat ramps.

My truck has 95.5K and is on it's second set of BFG Radial Long Trails.  The first set went 70K and still had a decent amount of tread left (I got $75 out of them at a yard sale.).  This second set is wearing just as well as the first set.

Then again, I drive like a turtle.  ;)

I had a set of those same Cooper tires on my Nissan, they did not last very long. Partially because my truck got knocked out of ailignment, but overall tread wear was not that great for all four tires. I just recently replaced them with a set of Bridgestone Duelers. So far I like the Bridgestones alot better. They only have around 1500 mile only have 1500 miles on them so far. Only time will tell.

Let me clarify. I bought the truck recently and the rear tires are in good shape, but the front tires exhibit the classic over inflation pattern (middle worn out).  Not sure what the previous owner did, but he/she must had no clue when it came to tires.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the input.  I going to replace the two worn tires with OEM BFG, since many of you have had good luck.

Goodyear Wranglers on my F150....first set went about 75k....

Goodyear Wranglers on my F150....first set went about 75k....

My dad's old Wrangler came from the factory with Wranglers.  They lasted forever.  Naturally he went with the same tire when it came time to replace the rubber.  That second set went a third of what the first set went.

In my experience, the tires you buy aren't as good as the tires that come on the vehicle.

I'm almost there...she's got 131k on her right now....another 20k or so before these get replaced...

I had a set of AT style Wranglers,  life expectancy on that tread pattern should've been around 45k miles, those suckers started delaminating at around 40k!  I've never owned another set.  The only tire I've run that was worse were the General Grabbers.  Uggghhhhh.......

Yeah...General tires are kinda...well...yeah. Their Exclaim line is an okay tire. But any of their light truck tires are crap. I have never heard anything really great about Goodyear Wrangler tires. I always hear about, and have seen adjustment tires, with poor tire wear despite keeping proper air pressure and keeping up with proper regularly scheduled tire maintenence.

Lots of BFG Rugged Trail folks around here. They are good tires, don't get me wrong, but they are essentially watered down versions of BFG All Terrain T/M KOs that aren't really a whole lot cheaper than their superior "big brothers".
