For me, it,s not necessarily the cost for the gas in the boat.  It's the cost of the gas for my tow vehicle (2005 Toyota 4-runner. 4L six cyl)  when going fishing.  My favorite spot is 2 hrs away, 4 hrs round trip.  About $60-$65 in gas just for the 4runner)  :'( :'(

I don;t know what we as lowly Americans can do about gas prices, but surely something needs to be done.  One of these days, we will get to the  tipping point and all hell will break loose. >:(

Ronnie, is it just me or have they been saying that for a while? Maybe I am $1 behind, but it seems like I've heard that plenty before...

Agreed, but something has to be done about it.  It's getting rediculous

I posted this link a while back on a previous thread about gas prices.

http://www.californiagasprices.com/price_by_county.aspx

HAHAHAHA.... gotta love cali.  The only one with all red.  I paid 3.89 the other day.  I've been walking to work, it's only a 2 mile round trip, but saves me some money.  On the lake, i've been doing alot of half throttle on the big lakes, and have noticed a good difference in gas saving.  I think i'm gonna start asking for fishing partners to help a little more with gas on long trips.  It's costing $85-$100 for gas to go to lakes 2 hrs away.  It's definately hurting.

I'm definitely doing the lower rpm thing a lot more now except on tournament days.....which adds even more pressure to finish in the money.

And I hear a bunch of you saying "something has to be done" and I whole-heartedly agree....but in reality, what can be done?

One thing is for sure with high fuel prices I'm sure you can get some good deals on boats and diseal trucks.   Just have to park them for a while.  Sad part is payments would probally be cheaper than monthly operating expenses

There hasn't been a new refinery built in ages.  The vast amount of refining capacity we have now is limited.  Big oil has actually been limiting it's production and creating an artificial shortage in this country.  This spring,  they're taking them off-line for extended periods for maintenance creating an even tighter supply.  They're in no hurry to bring them back on line.  Even big oil admits if they built more capacity they could sell it.

All this while we're supposedly in the middle of a "War on Terror".

It seems to me that this is the angle to go after them.  Why are they artificially holding back on the most important economic commodity produced in this country while we're in a war in Iraq, in Afghanistan and world wide against terror?

I will be forced to fish all the lakes within 15 miles of Coventry this summer. >:(

One is 657 acres but $15 to launch, the other two are free and about 300 acres. I can't complain. But the drive to work and school are killing me.

My view is that painfully nothing will get done or happen, any time soon. Why? because in my opinion there is far too much money to be made by too many important people.

Bingo....nothing makes me more upset.

How much money is enough money to some of these people?

Greed kills.

I pull my Skeeter with a Ford Sport Trac v-6. Neither are for sale. It is 2 1/2 hours from my house to the ramp on Sam Rayburn that I like to launch. Been making that trip many years and not even thinking about stopping it.

How much is enough?  Who gets to set such a limit?

What is greed?

It doesn't help that the enviro-nuts and NIMBY's have worked to block any and all expansion in the refinery business.

That said, it would make little fiscal sense for them to create additional refining capacity when they are currently meeting demand.

and thats no joke:

3 resteraunts in this area closing down = No business....Both of the gas stations that sell gas only (not conveniance stores) both closed in the last 2 weeks.....I work for an insurance company and we are getting hammered by Auto body shops nickel and diming every little thing just because they need the business....All the little accidents and fender benders are no longer going in to get fixed.  People are just keeping the insurance money to make ends meet....some of these body shops will be gone very soon.....The bottom of the country is falling out under us and i fear a depression very soon....I hope it all turns around quickly and soon or its going to take a very long time to build it back up    :'(

I do the purchasing for my local hospital. Before shipping was free in our contracts. Now companies are charging 15-20 dollar fuel surcharges per delivery because diesal is out of this world. $4.59 as of this weekend for diesel. CRAZY!!!

I usually don't buy into the depression talks but if something doesn't happen fast than it will happen no doubt about it. Jobs are being lost left and right. Especially in NY. Good amount of people haven't seen a raise in years but prices are all going up.

Unless fuel prices drop down to a affordabel level then I don't think your going to see anything turn around.  As long as fuel remains high and getting higher then it's going to get worse.     Imagine if fuel and it will hit $5 a gallon I'm sure.  Imagine fuel at that price and we have another round of hurricanes just think how much it will cost then

What is 'affordable'?

$1.25 a gallon !!  I can dream, cant I ?! ::)

Use some common sense and you tell me ;)

On my drive to work today (northern MI) I saw a station at 3.74/ gal for unleaded. I wanted to vomit. I drive 162 miles round trip everyday to work and I drive an economy car and still fill up 2 times a week.

IMO I believe we are far beyond reasonable.

I think its becoming quite apparent that the lifestyles we have had need to change. That also our economy will have a hard time with these types of fuel prices. We have had cheap fuel for a long time and our economy has been built upon having fuel cheap and readily available for that time.

So when we have fuel costs what they are, things will start to go awry. I mean most of our goods are transported via trucking and at $4+ for a gallon of diesel, that puts a wrinkle in the system.
