Saying "no" to advertisers

Just got approached AGAIN by the makers of the Walking Worm and Kicktail lures.  They REALLY want to advertise here (they're very persistant).  But, as I have several times in the past, I declined.

I don't care how many dollars they wave in my face, their products are junk and it would be a disservice to our members to advertise them here.  It would also discredit the fine folks who do support our site.

Sheesh

Which part of "NO" don't they understand?? Surely they have read the threads about their products on the BR forums. Yet they still want to advertise them here?? Guess they hope to LURE in some of our newbies with those junk gimmick gizmos (pun intended).

Way to go, Glenn!!!

Note: my appology for calling you Surely:o)

Way to go Glenn!!!   Now tell me how to get the fools from using all my fax paper up. I get about two every day about trips and such. Tried calling the 800 number but  they keep coming.

"5 DAYS, 4 NIGHT IN CANCUN FOR ONLY $399"  ;D I know what you mean..

You really can't blame them for wanting to advertise here.  15,000 members and all.  But I mean come on...no is no.  Is there any legal way to take their money and accidently mistype their website addresses and forget to check your email?? ;D ;)

Ummmm.... Why are you saying no to them? These are two great baits that have put a ton of fish in the boat for me and my PB was caught on a junebug colored Walking Worm. I don't get what is wrong with them. :-?

;) ::) ;D

Wow Glenn,  Thanks alot.

I would have dreaded the topics that came from those two baits.  Thier would have been alot of adv. bashing going on.

The point I'm trying to make is that I just don't take money from anyone willing to throw it at me.  I don't need the money, so I'd rather pick and choose from reputable companies.  I feel their ads are misleading, and I don't want that here. It would be a disservice to our members.

I'm not trying to "rub it in" their face or anything else.  I say what I mean with no hidden agendas.  There's nothing "between the lines" to read.  So if you read something else into it, stop it!  :)

I like your reasoning, Glenn. It makes perfect sense

I don't know if I speak for everyone but I know I certainly speak for the majority when I say that you have NO NEED to explain how you do what you do.  We all know this board is driven by your passion for fishing and not the almighty buck,.....that's why it has become what it is.

The proof is in the pudding, just keep on doing what you do.

That is great to hear Glenn. I have more confidence in purchasing from the sponsors here now.

I was curious and would like to know what is your selection process that determines if you would let a company advertise on this forum? I mean do you personally test out their products or sent them to the other moderators to test out? I just wanted to know because maybe I can learn what to look for to distinguish between baits/tackle that catches fisherman vs fish. I dont want to waste more money purchasing junk. If you dont want to disclose your evaluation process that is cool too. Thanks  :)

I'm sure there are more criteria but we've been asked to test and evaluate certain products.  Our opinions are always asked, what the boss does with the input is up to him but as a group, we are more often unanimous on most topics.

We are a pretty varied bunch too, a great sample demographic.

Would you care to disclose some of the other tackle that you guys have rejected because it was pure junk or just didn't like it.

I'm just curious because in the past I was a sucker for some of the the "specials" especially the red tagged sale items at walmart which ended up to be junk.

They rejected my solar operated, sonar guided, self propelled, fish tracking, automatic hooking, turtle shelled, weedless swimming crab lure that I designed using top secret technology from NASA's mission to Mars.  It also featured an automatic self destruct devise that would ensure you would never get snagged in that snag again!!!  That lure was so effective it was going to be banned from tournaments.  I can't believe Bassresource wouldn't let me advertise :( :( :(

;D

I'll mention the hover lure, but that's as far as I'll go.  :-X
