Report: Ultra-Rich Man Flies Lamborghini to U.K. From Qatar for Service

Thursday, July 31, 2008

E-Mail Print Share:

A rich Arab has caused uproar after reportedly putting his Lamborghini on a 6,500-mile round trip to Britain for an oil change.

The $376,000 supercar was put on a flight from Qatar to Heathrow Friday before being flown back after the service, the U.K.'s Sun newspaper reported Thursday.

The transport of the Murci élago LP640 driven by Batman in "The Dark Knight" would have cost the owner believed to be a Sheikh about $40,000, the paper reported.

The move sparked fury from employees at Heathrow.

This car doesn't have a carbon footprint more of a crater, one airport worker told the paper.

The overall cost of sending the black-and-gold supercar to London for the oil change would have cost more than $45,000, The Sun reported.

On Monday, the vehicle was flown back to Qatar.

Wow I wish I had that munch money to blow like that.

I wonder if the rich Sheik is concerned about what the people who work at the airport think about him?

Yeah I'm kinda wondering the same thing.  In fact I'm thinking I don't care, I'm just tired of hearing anything to do with oil. It's getting old.

What difference does it make, he has the money to do it so let him do it.   He can do like Gore and just buy some credits and then it's all good.

He is doing it at our expense in a round about way.  He can afford to throw the money around like that because of our high oil prices.  It would have been cheaper to fly in the mechanic to do the work, he is laughing at us right now.

It might be cheaper for him to just hire a full time mechanic to move to Qatar.

Hahaha, I dunno why but I get a kick out of that.

I guess if you have a billion dollars, 40,000 for an oil change is nothing.

If I had 40K to waste I sure wouldn't blow it on an oil change!!!!! :o

I kind of enjoy the irony.

He lives in country that is one big oil well, but has to ship his car to another continent for an oil change.

That's like a guy in Nebraska going to Japan for a corn dog.

Guessing there's no Jiffy Lubes in Qatar?

Actually, there are. Qatar is a pretty Americanized place. Fast food, alcohol, western music,  all those things other muslim countries shun. Hell, there were guys in pickup trucks and people driving Camaro's when I was there.

Just think that is probably YOUR gas money he just spent.

The car's warranty is void if maintenance isn't performed by a dealer.

It would have been cheaper to fly in a certified mechanic.  Methinks there is more to this story than meets the eye.

Service has to be performed by an authroized dealer, of which there are non in Qatar.  First service on the car use to be free, now on the LP640 they charge you for it.  :)

Break in service is done at 1500 miles, then the follow up is done at 7500 if I remember correctly.  That service ran me $4900.

Regardless of what he paid for the service, it's all relative guys.  I'm sure if you grew up in his shoes you'd do the same thing...

I'd just like to know why any of you have your panties in a wad about how this guy spends HIS money.

If I had that kind of money, I'd burn $1000 every day and post the video on YouTube. Just to tick people off.
