I hurt my foot!

Featured Replies

Well I've hurt my foot and I don't know how. Yesterday I woke up and my right foot was killing me. I tried to walk and I about killed over in pain. I keep trying to understand what I did and the only thing I can figure is I must have twisted it while sleeping or slept on it wrong. I don't have insurance so I can't go to the hospital so I'm stuck in bed for the most part. I was able to muster up a old crutch but only one and I swear I'm going to break my neck every time I have to go to the bathroom. Man I wish it was summer and I was working my frog over some grass. :'(

i was thinkin the same thing.

That's what my mom thinks now and she's a RN. From what I read it sounds like the aspirin I was taking for some bad headaches could have led to this. Treatment seems to be to stay off the foot and take anti inflammatories. Thanks for the help guys at least now I have a better idea what is going on. The whole thing was weird and I hope it starts to improve. It reccomends caffien to help with acid levels so I guess I'll start drinking more sodas right now. On the downside the trips to the bathroom won't be fun!!.

Hope your condition improves!  I'd lay off the soda, though.  At least non-diet soda.  I've cut and pasted something from the Wikipedia site referred to you by Roadwarrior:

"Men who consume two or more sugary soft drinks a day have an 85% higher risk of gout compared with those who drink less than one a month.[1] This is because soft drinks contain large quantities of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), a common sweetener in soft drinks, which results in Hyperuricemia in blood.[34][35] Hyperuricemia, in turn predispose the body for gout."  Source:  Wikipedia.org

On an unrelated matter:  What part of Southern Illinois are you from?  I live in Mahomet but use to go to school and work in Carbondale.  I miss the region and like to go down when I can.

Man sorry to hear that.  Hope you start getting better.

Go to the ER, point to your foot (while wincing) and if anyone asks you a question, say "no habla engles" and when they ask for your SS # just say "no tango."  That's all you have to do to get free health care.   >:(

High fructose corn syrup is bad stuff and it is in just about everything we eat, even breads and other things you wouldn't think had sweeteners in them. Avoid it when you can.

hahaha so true! :-/ >:(

Sounds like you got the gout. It almost always manifests itself in the right toe joint. They can give you some drugs to get it to go away but you will always be suseptable. I had it many times and thought it was a stone bruise, but it kept coming back. I ended up having to haev surgery on my toe joint. I couldn't fish for a month!

Beer is also a major culprit. Not whiskey or any other liquor, just beer.

It can be controlled with drugs.

Good luck!

I don't know what it could be, but if you could only find one crutch, try to get someone to go to a goodwill or thrift store for you. I know pretty much every thrift store I have been to has a pile of old crutches that would be pretty cheap. Having two would probably make it a lot easier to get around.

Thanks for all the advice and kind words guys. Most of the pain is located on the top part of the foot in front of the ankle knob. Putting weight on it like you normaly would causes instense pain. So I've stayed off it and my moms been great helping me out. I don't know what I would have done if she wasn't able to help me out like she has. I guess I would have broken down and went to the hospital then dealt with a big bill.

It's starting to get better but it's not even close to good enough to walk on but it's not causing constant pain now. I'm certainly going to continue to read up on this and if I have any other flare ups I'm going to go to a doctor for long term treatment. BTW farmpond1 I'm actually right outside Carbondale.
