Why I will shop at Sears/Kmart this season

Recommended Posts

I got this email from my friend Gil, in Brooklyn;

Sears -  Christmas shopping has already started

I know I needed this reminder since Sears isn't always my first choice. Amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and they haven't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

Pass it on.

Decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.

Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!

That's awesome but I have a question.  Did you re-write what they wrote or did you cut and paste it?  Their response is missing words and is grammatically incorrect.

It's no big deal.  I just wanted to point it out before Long Mike got a hold of it.

I cut and pasted it, so I would get it right. To tell you the truth I don't really care about the grammar, just the message. I forwarded ther original to Long Mike and a few others I am friends with here already.

wow, that's great. It's good to see a company that not only cares but puts its money where its mouth is.

The wife and I just decided to do all our shopping in the future from Sears when we can. If Sears is going to do their part, I going to try to help them.

Muddy,

Its very refreshing to see a feel good stories once in awhile.

What really makes Sears standout is. with today's falling economy, Sears could have easily saved a nickle by simpling suspending those benefits since  the employee is covered 100% in the military.

Sears has always had good products as well.

That's really good to hear. I've always shopped at Sears. All you have to do is go out in my garage and see my Craftsman tractor and my rollaway tool chest filled with Craftsman tools.

Now I have another reason to keep shopping there.

What the??????????????????????????

In no way was I bashing what Sears is doing. I was simply thinking that some executive in a major corporation could at least use correct grammar and spelling.

Does that answer your What the??????????? question?

1.  I've re-read the Sears response several times and could find no grammatical or spelling errors - but then, I've had a few glasses of wine.

2. Did anyone watch 60 Minutes this evening?  Ironically, they filmed a segment about what is being done to protect the jobs of those who are in the reserves/guard who are required by the military to spend time as an active soldier.  By law, when the soldier returns form active duty, that soldier is to be returned to the same duties, and at the same pay, as when he/she departed.  In reality, according to 60 Minutes, that seldom happens.  And here's the kicker.  The employer that abuses this law the most is the Federal Government.

To the nation's great good fortune, there are companies out there who bend over backwards to protect the families and jobs of their employees who are called to duty.  60 Minutes focused on a truck line by the name of Con-Way Freight.  Con-Way spends over a half million a year to ensure the well being and job security of its "conscripted" employees.

No it doesn't. You took away from the feel-good story line with your crappy bull.

Cheezus Christmas, some guy misses a "the" in the sentence, and some KIA is all over it.  It's not like Mr. Thorn used "Textlish" in his reply!  I think their commitment to our men and women trumps any errors anyway.  Sears has always felt like the least evil mega chain stores I've been in.  This paints a picture of a corporate giant actually trying to do good - very unusual in this day in age.  Thumb's up to them.

Thought I would bring this back up as a reminder now that most of the shopping has started.

That's a great thing Sears is doing.  I heard about this in an e-mail forward before, and it is a reminder of why we should support them.
