Where would you go hunting?

Featured Replies

I got a Christmas gift for a hunting trip out of state to shoot something with antlers. $7500 budget for three people to hunt. I am not opposed to a large game farm and or the hunt would need to be guided.

Where would you go for a once in a lifetime hunt one a budget?

Thanks

I don't know anything about Area 76, but an elk hunt in Colorado

with a top outfitter would be mighty fine.

8-)

76 is the best imo. But it takes about 7 or 8 preference points (7 or 8 years of application) before you can draw a bull tag. I know excellent guides in that area, if you wanted a cow, which I doubt. I have a 357 inch  6X7 that came out of 76 in my garage.

Too bad it isn't $7500 for just one person, then I would suggest the King Ranch.

Texas, Canada or the Milk River in Montana.

Hogs have antlers?

I grew up in Livingston, Montana and the Paradise Valley is pretty hard to beat for elk. This year in Central Nebraska was pretty good to my son this year for whitetail.

For that kind of money come to eastern NC for two weeks of all the deer you want to shoot. We can do some bear hunting I'll take you for a good night of coon hunting. We should be able to pop a few coyote and I'll throw in some great bass fishing.  ;D

Been to Creede, nice area.

Practically grew up there. Lived about 50 minutes away my whole life, but the creede area was definitely my outdoor stomping grounds. Aunt and Uncle run a guide service there still.

I agree with Burley $7,500 for 3 people will be a limiting factor because you will still have to add licenses, tags, & additional fees for all 3.

Next question would be Archery, Muzzleloader, or Rifle?

All good suggestions so far...I realize the hunt might be limited on this kind of budget that is why I am asking for help and or advice of places some of you might have hunted in the past

I would prefer to hunt archery or rifle seasons where ever I end up. I think I am leaning toward an elk or white tail hunt for sure just not sure where.

Thanks

For $2500 a head with airfare/gas, and ~$500 a piece for a tag, you will probably have a real hard time getting an elk hunt put together.

I mistakenly read it as $7500 for yourself, which would get you the highest caliber of elk hunt.

Southern Iowa, look up the current world record deer and if you think it was a fluke check how well the surrounding counties do.  I saw 5 different B&C bucks bow hunting this year in 9 days while in the stand.  If the locals were dumb enough in the area I hunt to post pictures on the internet or put deer in the books it would be near impossible to hunt in the 2 counties.

Have you considered a caribou hunt?  I don't know what they're going for now, but a few years ago when I was considering it, one could book a nice four or five day hunt with two tags for around $1500.

Good call. My uncles did this once. They are cheap, so it must have been too. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Man, that's just as challenging as hunting buffalo

outside Yellowstone Park.

Or using shiners :P jk

Harshman,

I would drive down the road to Pike County, Illinois.  Right to the Harpole's HeartLand Lodge.

I have hunted Pike County on some of the remaining private ground that is not leased or bought by those with $.  It is a fantastic place to hunt but the price to hunt anywhere near there is very high.  The one thing that is nice about that area is the number of people that manage the herd and take mature bucks, management bucks, and also does to keep the herd in check.  That being said I would take Southern Iowa any day.
