What's up with this?

Featured Replies

Yesterday I received my Feb. issue of Bass Master magazine - on the outside was a reminder that my membership was about to expire and a renewal card offering me the opportunity to renew my membership for $25 for one year - "Save 54%".  Inside were two subscription cards offering me the opportunity to join at a rate of $15 for one year.

I called BASS and the lady was very interested in what my zip code was and then told me that my "renewal" rate would be $25 but the offer to "new members" would be $15.  She kept emphasizing my zip code.  This got me to wondering - do they charge different rates depending on where you live?  What do you pay for your membership in BASS?  Just curious.

I had the same question about a year ago. I just started a new subscription under a different name.

I actually just got a thing in the mail from them monday and I mailed it out yesterday it was $12 for the year plus i get a free tackle bag, I am new to them by the way. So maybe it does depend on where you live?

I paid $12.00 for my first year. Within a couple of months, I received an offer for a second year at the same rate. I don't plan on renewing again.

They called my house two nights ago, telling me what a great rate they had for me. I don't remember what the rate was, but I know it was way more than the $15.00 rate.

They didn't ask for my zip code though.

I used 5 phony names and got the group rate

I paid the $25 then a week later got a $10 renewal card.  I called and said what up with that?  They said they would refund me the subscription, and I could call back the next day for the $10 rate.  Kinda stupid, so I just used the $10 for another year extension.  No questions asked.  I also got the free Bassmaster Bag too. It's the Blue one, with the imprinted logo.  If anyone is interested in it, I'll send it to ya if you PM me.  Sounds fishy, all the varying prices for memberships...either way, got a year for $10....cool....I guess.

Yes, your zipcode tells businesses a lot. They base their advertising and even the prices of their products on it.

Example: A supermarket chain charges more for the exact same products when the store is in an affluent town versus a "blue coller" town. Nothing new there, businesses have been operating like this forever.

let mine expire.

got a letter asking $10.00 a year...plus the tackle bag.

they musta heard about me.

Magazine woes...

I just got my Dec/Jan issue of F&S that should have came in late November.

I actually just got a thing in the mail from them monday and I mailed it out yesterday it was $12 for the year plus i get a free tackle bag, I am new to them by the way. So maybe it does depend on where you live?

Yeah I got the same thing...too bad I'm already subscribed to Bassin' . :-/

BM=$25, $15, $12, or $10 depending on what time of the month it is.

BR=Free every day

When I discovered BR I canceled all of my mag. subscriptions except Runner's World.  When Glenn adds a running section to the forum I'm going to cancel that too! ;D

I keep waiting for them to tell me to renew my life membership.

I never thought I would have to ask the question, "Who's life, mine or BM?"

my membership to BM has been up for nearly a year but they still send me issues occasionaly, and continue to lower the price. It is finally 10 bucks plus all the little goodies for subscribing. They are not making very much off of me!!!!

$12 for the year plus i get a free tackle bag,

When they asked me to renew (I think it was in November) I declined. So last week my wife got a letter from BM and had the same deal $12 bucks for a year and tacklebag,  So needless to say my wife is now a member of B.A.S.S  ;D

let mine expire.

Same here.
