Popcorn

Featured Replies

The weather forecasters are predicting 4-6 inches of snow in our area tomorrow, so under the BR winter weather advisory guidelines, that entitles me to start one ridiculous thread that screams "I've got cabin fever!" So, I decided to use this opportunity to reach out to my fellow popcorn-loving brethren.

I like to pop up a good batch in oil, then melt a half a stick of butter over it and add salt. That's as close as I can get it to having that movie popcorn taste at home. Anyone have a suggestion for achieving that ultimate goal of eating movie popcorn without leaving your house? And please, don't respond if you're going to tell me about some lame bag that you stick in the microwave. I've tried most of them and they just don't add up. ;)

Finallly we're getting snow. It's been long enough.

Pop Secret.  ;D

Popcorn makes me sick.  Apple Cider is much better.

Im not one that likes alot of butter. Im a salt guy. So i cover mine with salt.

Cant stand the grease all over fingers.

But we all know good ol "KETTLE KORN" is the best!!

I sprinkle the Chex Mix seasoning you get in the packets over it.

Preach,

Well, I must confess that I'll pop an already "extra butter" bag of Act II or Pop Weaver in the microwave.  I'll then melt a 1/2 stick of butter in a long and deep rubbermade container, swish it all around the sides, salt the bottom of it real good, and pour the bag of popcorn in.  Then I'll shake it up real good until the butter coats much of the corn and pour it into a bowl. . . pretty darn close to theatre corn.

There's one theatre near us that has those butter pumps in the lobby.  I'll go back several times throughout the show.  :-[

We have a Chinese wok with a big dome lid. It makes the best popcorn. I think because it gets really hot really fast. We use the bagged kernels, the particular brand does not matter.

Just run by the Tiger mart, they have an old machine right there in the store and is as good if not better than any movie theatre I been to.

Make your basic popcorn

Sprinkle: Romano cheese,Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning and shake it all through the popcorn

Top with freshly melted butter

Get some napkins! ;D

My wife bought a upright popcorn machine for about $170.00 at BJs as a XMAS present for me. I buy premixed packets from of Chiefs Premium popcorn and it tastes EXACTLY like movie theatre popcorn and a heck of alot cheaper.

Orville's for me, light butter with salt or light butter with Frank's Red Hot sauce!

Hmm how about sausage gravy DRIED,powdered and sprinkled on popcorn??

my father used to like his popcorn slightly burned with butter and EXTRA garlic. (suppose it's his fault i don't like it)

how do you eat popcorn with hotsauce on it? do you need a "hotwing" amount of napkins?

Guess i just never thought of popcorn as a messy thing to eat. maybe i'd like it better with bacon gravy. ;D

My dad always sprinkled parmesian cheese on his.  It smelt like dirty feet in the living room when he ate popcorn.   ;D

Muddy,

I'll have to try the seasoning and butter.  Sounds good.

Eddie,

Can you explain how your popcorn machine works and how big it is?

One of my army buddies turned me on to hot sauce on popcorn.  It is worth a shot!  It is messy, but no messier than melting butter on top!

It wasn't listed on BJ's website but here's a photo of it:

It makes 1.5 gallons of popcorn and is delicious. I haven't mastered mixing my own kernals/oil/butter yet so I'm sticking with the premixed packs. :)

Doesn't matter what it is as long as it isn't burnt and is loaded with butter and salt. I also go to the grocery store and pick up a plastic container of the Kraft Mac and Cheese cheese to sprinkle on it.

Soooo hungry right now......... >:(

Nobody else has a whirleypop?  This thing makes great popcorn, and you can also make the glazed popcorn in it.

One gallon of Great Pop Corn: That should get you through all of Scorcee's movies in one sitting! Nice machine Eddie!

The wok idea was a great one.  Had never thought of using the wok as a popper.  Wife and I have been on a popcorn binge the last few days.

Plus it helps keep the wok seasoned.
