Why your vote counts.

Town of Palm Beach election for mayor.  results were 1590 to 1589.  That's right, a 1 vote difference.  Or 2.

Was it punch cards or electronic voting?

Hopefully there wont be any hanging chad's , butterfly ballets, or voter intent confusion.

I'm not sure.  I'm not rich enough to live on the island so I it wasn't my Mayor.  It was on local news tonight.

Local and state elections yes, presidential, I don't think so.

Toolpush,

In all due respcet what you said makes very little sense.  We recently had an election, that most likely,  had a winner that recieved the minority of the popular vote.  In a Presidential election you have to look at the percentages.  So many more people vote in a Presidential election that it is very unlikley that it will ever come down to 1 vote.  However, it is very possible that the margin of victory in a Presidential election could be very similar to a >3200 person election that is won by one vote.  Please don't think your vote counts regardless of which party you choose to vote for.

youre vote counts if you are highly educated,If youre not, it only muddies the water.

What the ? You're vote is a right of citizenship not a function of education!!!!!!! For that matter a person with a PHD and Nobel Prize could vote opposite of what you do, and a person with a 3rd grade reading level could vote exactly as you do, there is no sense to this statement

That's just about the most asinine statement I've ever seen on this board.  Would you care to explain?

Our last mayoral race was tied.

How did they pick a winner?  They flipped a coin.

Yep, that's democracy for you.

If there was only two runners what did you want them to do.  Elections are expensive and I would be mad if my county had another one.  I know some of the people that didn't vote the first time might come out the next time, but imo if they didn't bother to be there the first time oh well.

I think he may be referring to those who vote based on race, sex and etc instead of voting for someone based on your knowledge about the candidates credentials.

I took this to mean that if you took the time to educate yourself on the issues, and the candidates stance, you would be able to make an informed decision.

Ah, the beauty of the English language.  One simple statement is interpreted in several different ways.  Only the author knew what was meant.
