Just about passed out after fishing. Whats up with that?

Featured Replies

Has happened twice now and only during winter. I spend 4+ hours out on the boat, maybe 80% of that sitting down.

After I get back to the dock, there is a steep incline to walk up to get my truck. By the time i get to the top of the hill, I am dizzy almost to the point of blocking out.

Best I can tell, maybe this is from cold blood in my legs getting suddenly pushed into my body when I head up the hill. Does that make sense? Has anyone else every had that happen to them?

Take these problems to a doc. Sounds like blood sugar issues to me, nothing to play around with. My blood pressure was doing the same thing when I was 274 lbs. I would get light headed every time I would bend at the waist. After losing 60 lbs. this was no longer an issue.

Yep, I've gained some weight over the past few months.  Same thing here.

I was back at the gym this morning and intend to keep doing it.  I'm not going to let bad health due to not taking care of myself ruin my leisure time activities.

I don't know your specifics, but you may want to set up a full physical along with a stress test.  See what your blood pressure is doing.  Not to scare you, but this may be something for cardiology.  Have yourself checked out.

Go talk to your doctor about it.  Sounds like you need a stress test done.

I agree with everyone else. It's time to see the doctor.

As a quick follow up guys. I am seeing my Dr tomorrow at 11.

On the plus side, my wife, who usually says these message boards are a horrible and useless waste of time (means a lot coming from a facebook addict LOL), now is sort of liking this board.

Reminds me of the last tie i got a physical (2 yrs ago). Dr asks me, "So what made you come in for a physical?". I told him, so my wife would quit bugging me. He laughs and says, "That is the ONLY reason I see guys your age in here.".

M Starr - Hope all goes well tomorrow!

Thanks Buckeye. I really do not fear the doc. If he finds anything, it is already there. Really, it is a good thing. He can say nothing is wrong...lose weight (which I do need to do), or he can say "This and this is wrong--and lose some weight"...in which case I know and I can get about fixing it.

My biggest issue is always just taking the time to take care of myself. Which is a poor excuse.

I actually have a cousin 26 yrs old who now is going to spend the rest of her life being taken care of. She had her vision getting REAL bad. I mean she lost the ability to see color, has blurry and otherwise poor vision that changed daily. For a LONG time. Turned out she had a tumor in her head for a long time. By the time they took it out it had damaged her optic nerve and petuitary to the point that she put on 200 lbs, lost more vision, and had a tremendous impact on her mental faculty.

So I know better than to wait or to post out here before I went to see him. I imagine I will be doing blood work and other tests over the next couple of weeks to see what/if anything is wrong besides me needing to lose 20-30 lbs.

Yep been going down the wrong path myself ( for way too long in my case ). Been getting borderline on some health issues. Problem is the medicines are terrible. One medicine kept gradualy decreasing my sleep to the point that 3 hrs was all I could sleep. The most recent medicine creates tons of pain in multiple places; I thought "man maybe just old age". Then I read the side effects from the latest med and sure enough, probably the cause. I said that's enough of this crap and it was off to the gym.

The moral of the story is if they do put you on somthing watch for side effects.

Hey guys, thought I would throw a follow up for this. It reminded me of why I like my doctor, the man does not pull any punches.

I got the full rundown, stress test, blood check, etc. My Cholesterol is slightly high, my weight sucks, and from my dr "If you are going to go out fishing for 8 hours in the cold and not drink or eat, you are going to pass out when you run up the boat ramp!". Besides that, BP is averaging normal, stress test was clean, and everything else checks out.

Anyway, being how am sick of this friggin weight, I am now darn near starving myself (follow Dr's diet guide), and exercising, to drop 40 lbs. Lost 8 already. So hopefully by my BDay, I will have an easier time getting my boat to trim out. LOL

Good luck  , you'll feell a lot better once you drop that weight.

You Dingle Dork!  You didn't tell us that you hadn't eaten anything.  I'm glad the tests came out ok and good luck with the diet.

Sam, I already did. A blood sugar test was one of the battery he ran on me. Thanks to an extrended stay in the ER the night before for my wife, I had a 16 hour fasting period before the test.

Either way, it makes me feel good that nothing major was found, and I got a heads up on a couple things I need to work on (obviously I knew about the weight already), and  good kick in the rear to drop the extra pounds.

M Starr, glad to hear that you had the full battery.  I won't even get into my numbers, but am glad to here you got it checked out.  now you have place to start.  Good luck with the diet.  Stay after it, and remember to keep it healthy. ;)

M Star-  Glad to hear you made it to the doc and that it was nothing serious.  Good luck with the diet, you will certainly feel better when you get your weight down to where you want it to be.  A lot can be said about how much better you feel when you do a little exercise every couple of days too!

X2 When I was 39 had something similar plus shortness of breath. Had a few doctors look and found nothing. They were saying acid reflux. Found one doctor to listen to me and he found a 95%+ blockage of the right coranary artery.

Glad your docs found it and was nothing serious. a couple of handfuls of peanuts and some gatoraide get me through the day usually.
