Classless: any redwings fan atteding tonights game 7 in Detriot :-/

My god how hard is it to admit that your team got outplayed and take the lose with a little bit of class? This isnt a knock on all Red Wings fans becasue every fanbase has its clowns but it seems as though tonight the circus came to the Joe ;D

Anyone else at least a little bit shocked by the amount of booing tonight?

Like they said in 1968, "Visit Detroit, Its a Riot."

Nothing personal, but the only good thing coming out of Detroit is an empty Greyhound bus.

  • Super User

Wow, that's harsh; What Detorit gave me:

Aretha Franklin

Wilson Pickett

Martha Reeves

Mary Wells

Stevie Wonder

Smokey Robinson

Ron Carter

The Temptations

and all the great work of Quincy Jones

and I am sure there are some good folks still there caught up in a pretty bad situation 8-)

I am sure there are good people in Detroit.  ;)

I take it personal, insult the city you're insulting the residents and I'm one of them.

The vast majority of red wing fans don't live in Detroit, city residents can't afford a ticket. If you choose to bad rap fans, ok, that's a different matter. but losing teams around the world have showed poor sportsmanship.

Btw, Quincy Jones isn't from Detroit, born in Chicago and raised in Seattle, but we'll take credit anyway. Lot's of great music came out of Detroit, no mention of the Supremes or the 4 tops ;)

I know that sir know it all & has it all, that's why I PUT: THE WORKS QUINCY DID IN DETORIT

One of God's miracles:

David "Fat Head " Newman; born in Texas

Ray Charles: Born in Georgia, raised in Fla

Quincy Jones; from Chicago

Miles Davis: Alton Illinois

all meet up, play and hang out together, and all of them, especially Miles made major contributions to American Music

all those things from more than 20-30 years ago?

Those are not THINGS, They are PEOPLE and some very important musicians. I bet there are a few toddlers ,running around on floors in buildings in Detroit ready to do the same someday. Not all the poor are criminals and not every sports fan a thug.

I was never to Yankee stadium, I grew up in Ebbets and Shea, there were jerks there, but the nicer fans outnumbered them' I went to both Fenway and The Phillies parks, they had some loud and rude fans too, many more there to watch great frnachises play in great games. To condem a whole city for a few jerks is ridiculous. It happens to Brooklyn all the time, cept we don't give a ^&!&! #&*

I'm just saying there must be good stuff from within the last couple of decades, right?

I don't know why this turned into a thread about how Detroit doesn't suck or about Detroit music...obviously the city has had a rough time lately but I'd still like to go there.

I didn't see the booing or anything but just be glad we don't live in England with all those soccer fans. Our fans are amateurs when compared with soccer hooligans.

See remark , from other VA , Native Sam, and opener about their fans! My guess this set the table :-?

If you want to see fans boo their own team, go to a Phillies game, I went to a Phillies game a few years back, they were Playing the Cards, my Friends favorite team, Puljos was in his first MVP year. I forgot who the rookie pitcher was, but he kept the whole Cards Batting order to 3 hits and no runs, first 2 times through the order. HE STUCK ALBERT OUT ON CONSECUTIVE AT BATS, Froze him with a slider and the second time swinging at an high inside fastball. Third time up,>> he walked a guy, and Albert strokes a double, and the run scored on a errant throw, THEY BOOED THE KID PITCHING!! WOW

  • Super User

Yeah but talking about a city's hockey fans isn't exactly like berating the city, especially if they actually did that stuff.

Sam's a kidder, everyone knows that.

  • Super User

I don't know, Sir Snook and FLA, didn't like it, both Detroit natives.

Greatness is forever young. See BACH 8-)

Yes I took offense and yes the city is on shaky ground now, but insulting a city is insulting it's people.

When a city is mentioned it's generally accepted as talking about it's entire metro area. In that regard Detroit has wonderful areas that are as beautiful as any in the country, Bloomfield Hills, Grosse Pointe, Birmingham and Ann Arbor just minutes away (home of Univ of Mich., without argument one in the finest in the country).

Detroit has a vibrant cultural center, top notch symphony, great jazz and blues clubs and great theatre, much thanks to auto industry contributions and what I miss most is it's food.

Is there fishing there? HAHA. inland lakes galore just everywhere, the great lakes with most freshwater species you can think of.  I can take you places for LMB, smallies, walleye, perch, muskie and Sturgeon within minutes of the waterfront on the river.

You bet I'm proud of that town, had a great life there.

Sam's a kidder, everyone knows that.

I saw nothing in the post to suggest humour only ridicule, my bet is the poster has never been there and has no first hand knowledge.

This is super.

Guys stating why Detroit is a great place.

Love it.

I thought the Red Wings would take the Cup so it was a big surprise to see the Pens win it, especially in Detroit.

I am not a fan of any northern cities. But it is fun to get the guys to defend their cities, etc.

No offense meant.  Just having some fun.  :)

  • Super User

If those of us from the North did this , we would hear it. I just don't think in terms of stereotyping people from where they come from. It always comes out in how they talk or write. I rest my case  8-)

  • Super User

Jesus.

You old dudes will get all up in arms over anything wont you?

  • Super User

Come on guys, of course there are good things about Detroit, it's just a city that has suffered in recent years and its problems make it the butt of some jokes. Is it fair? Maybe not, but I don't think anyone was really saying it's a horrible place that is good for nothing. If you have read any of Sam's posts you know a lot of the stuff he says is in jest.

And Muddy, I know what you mean about Philly. Those are some rough fans (for all of their sports teams). Not many people would boo Santa Clause but in Philadelphia.... ;D

offtopic, but I think Pujols is a great guy. He does some great stuff for children with disabilities (he married a woman with a child with down syndrome--she was hesitant to tell Albert about her kid when they met because she thought he would run off but he was completely gung-ho about meeting and providing for the kid)

The original post was targeting the fans, an obnoxious fan is classess.

I've never been to Richmond so I can't bad rap it and probably wouldn't do it anyway.

I'm a city boy, but I did go to high school in the south for 3 years and I will only say it wasn't my cup of tea.

Jesus.

You old dudes will get all up in arms over anything wont you?

Ya know what the best thing is about being old?  YOU MADE IT THIS FAR ! and now I get to go fishing everyday and buy whatever I want. LOL

  • Super User

Hey Dan. it's cool, just a discussion. Old guys have a lot of time to think and talk, and a lifetimes experience to draw from 8-)

  • Super User

Isn't this why we are TEAM DEPENDS?

I wasn't aware that every city north of the Donna Dixon line all got together, egged your boat, keyed your car, and stole your morning paper.

  • Super User

Man, this thread took several wrong turns. We're talking about hockey fans here, not every person that lives or has lived in the state of Michigan.

Come on, let's get it together....geeez, you guys are killin' me.
