Saddened at the news

Featured Replies

I was fishing a lake a few days before Independance day and met up with an older guy on the water. We got to talking about what was working, and he said he was using Nightcrawlers and doing very well.I told him that in the town where I live Nightcrawlers,or any other kind of live bait was no longer being sold. He reached into a styrofoam box and handed me about a 1/2 dozen Crawlers.Told me about the rig he was using and where he was catching them at.

We finished our conversation, shook hands and he said he comes out to the lake on a regular basis, and that we would be seeing each other again.

I read the online version of the local paper today and my heart sunk:

That really sucks.  Make sure you pick up where he left off with the kindness.

The thing that REALLY got me is that I JUST talked to him,and the statement he made about seeing me out on the water again. Hits pretty hard.

I didnt really even know the guy,I think I met him at the lake a few years back, but that time and this last time were the only time I ever talked to him. I recall when I met him for that first time,He gave me a Storm Craw type bait and said the fish were hitting on it.

Not gonna be able to go on the lake and fish 1 certain spot without thinking of him,as this was a particular spot he pointed out to me where he was doing really well.

Every time you assault that spot, you can know where the luck is coming from, and you can smile.

That is a sad tale.

On the other hand, count your blessings, you got to meet him, and it's quite apparent that was a good thing.

When you see someone at the lake, and they ask you what's working, go ahead and give them a few baits. Help the people out. Keep this man's kindness going at the lake. That's the best thing that you can do in this situation. Make other people feel the way this man made you feel when for no reason other than to be nice the old man dug into his bag and gave you what was working. Especially the young fishermen.

I saw a 6 or 7 year old kid at the lake sunday as I was getting ready to go out in the boat. He was very excited to be out fishing off the dock, but had some rediculous bait that would never work. So I called him over, took the bait off, gave him a stick bait and hook, and set it up for him. Cost me about 20 cents, but d**n, did it make that kids day. Give someone advice, that's free. But it goes a long way. The old man will look down at you and be proud that your carrying on his tradition of being nice when so many people aren't.  you've talked to this man once, maybe twice in your life, and it affected you enough to make a post about it.  Try to be that way in other people's life as well.

Amen.

Did you happen to see if that boy caught anything with what you gave him?

not sure, I set him up and left in the boat.  Still made me feel good though, and my girlfriend seemed proud even though she didn't say much about it.
