There are waaayyyy more than 2 inventions from NASA that make life easier.

The Earth is getting to be overpopulated, and it's resources depleted. I see it as thinking ahead.

are we really any closer to living on the moon than we were 50 years and billions of dollars ago? Why not try to use that money and time to figuring out how to make Earth livable. (Overpopulation is mostly caused by poverty)

Overpopulation in the hills of Pennsylvania is caused mostly by the boredoom of winter ;D

This is the big debate right now. We know it's not really a viable option to live on the moon, so researchers are now pushing to search on Mars. Somebody just has to get the balls to do it.

Didn't you see the new star trek movie?!  The money is SOoooooooooo worth it!  :D

the only way I would move to Mars is if they put in some lakes and they called it Ameri-mars.

If they go messing around with mars, they might find out there's huge bugs on there that shoot mean poop out their butt, and are led by a huge brain bug!!??

wait a minute I think that's a movie ;D

The advancement of science and technology are NEVER a waste of money.  The Apollo missions took place when America most needed a boost in morale.  The Viet Nam war, coupled with both Kennedy's and MLK's assassinations made the U.S. of A. a somewhat dreary place.  The Apollo missions restored our self-respect and gave the Russians a very bloody nose.  That was very important to America's self-esteem at the time.

Further, it set the stage for the Nations of our planet to cooperate in exploration of our solar system and beyond.  The wonders that have been revealed are beyond imagination.

Waste of money? Get real.

Like what? I mean, I understand the whole Cold War aspect but are there any real tangible benefits?

Hmmm... Maybe how the Earth was formed???

By the way, tune in to Mythbusters. They are doing a special on this very topic.

Dan, since you are so myopic as to insist on tangible benefits, I'll name only one. It created jobs. There are many, many other benefits to humanity, but I won't bore you with the intangibles.

Thanks for trying not to bore me, but I'm sure there are other things that when fueled by billions and billions of dollars could have produced the same tangible and most of the same intangible benefits as NASA

What does it matter how the earth was formed? I mean that's great that we know it but does it really change anything?

I'll just answer the question.

Yes, we went to the moon in 1969. Was I born? No. But, I don't think that it is just a government hype. The people that believe this are the same people that think the government planned the 9/11 attack. I mean, give me a break.

Why is it a good thing, to create jobs to spend a lot of money, to go where no man has ever gone before

There are ways, right here on earth to figure out how the earth was formed

The moon, is hostile, with no water vapor

The idea to colonize it was long since ditched

Maybe it has some tactical use for spying and such

we did not go back and as far as using it as a stop over, in longer trips, space stations proved far more valuable.

Now they are looking at Mars; I guess it is just human nature to find out the answer to

I Wonder What's there

The end of the Viet Nam war, the successes of the civil rights movement and the end of a recession is what brought things together, not the moon shot

why spend all our money on such nonsense when in reality there are no lakes up there for any of us to fish anyhow.
