You've been eating little pieces of me for the last two days.   :-*

That is a disturbing comment right there. LOL

I killed a lot of deer with a cheap CVA from Wal-Mart back in the day. It's not the wand, it's the magician.

I haven't had a muzzle loader in a long time. What does it have some kind of electronic ignition?

Nice rifle Wayne, That's going to be really nice not dealing with primers any more. I buy a gun a year and That's going to be next years gun, A new muzzle loader with electric ignition.

This year's gun for me was a new Remington 30-06. ;)

I don't get it. I thought the point of muzzleloaders was that they are "primitive firearms"?    :-?

the problem with primitive firearms is after 50 yards or so you have no idea where the round will hit.

i love the Encore Endeavor..................drool.......

...which makes the hunt more challenging. I just don't understand why there are special muzzleloader seasons when the effective range of modern muzzleloaders is just as good as, if not better than, the rifled barrel 12 ga. slug guns used in the regular season (no rifles allowed in my area of NY).

i understand your point but gut shooting a deer to go die a long death stinks. id rather be able to drop the deer in its tracks which means a well place round with a lot of energy.

I have another one on hold at the store.  If my friend doesnt want it, just let me know.

You wont find it any cheaper than I can get it for you.

You trying to give me a reason to come out there. ;D

So I suppose you limit yourself to magnum cartridges and wide open broadside shots of under 100 yds, off a benchrest? Also, dropping one in it's tracks, doesn't always mean killing it instantly.

Real hunters should know their effective range and try to take ethical shots, period. No one can gaurantee a perfect shot, even within range in good conditions. FWIW, I've seen a much higher percentage of rifle hunters take shots out of range thinking they "might be able to hit it" than the bow or muzzle loader crowds.

And on the flip side to that, I've helped tracked 3 to 1 more poorly shot bow deer than anything else.

Around here, archery season is king.  We have lots of guys who pride themselves on being capable of excessive ranged shots with their $1,000 bows.

Pick your poison, I think the original post was merely pointing out his preference for not using a "primitive weapon".

Very true and as you point out, it doesn't matter the weapon... there are people that make poor shots and poor decisions with all of them.  My beef is with those that either lack the maturity to pass on bad/too long shots or have such an inflated ego that they take the shot anyway.

Being a guy that strictly limits shots to about 15 yds with my bow, I really frown on those that take poor shots.

i looked back over the post and dont recall saying that.

my stated opinion was on "primitive firearms". if you want to shoot a lead ball and use a charge you assume is accurate be my guest.
