As a fan of history, I could not help but notice the parallel to colonialism/imperialism and certain contempoary issues. )

I also noticed that theme just from the trailer. Isn't it the point of the movie?

Yes. I think James Cameron attempted to portray the people of Pandora in such a way to demonstrate the plight of indigenous peoples and garner sympathy... I will leave it at that to avoid spoiling the film or getting political.   :-X

I'd like to go see it, but not if it'll cost me 20 dollars. haha It's almost 10 dollars a ticket to watch a movie in theatres in 3D, plus I gotta pay for the girlfriend. It does look really good though.

Too much message, too much eye candy.  Lots of impressionable minds watching that claptrap.

I liked the story line even if it was very similar to Dances with wolves. I did get the feel of imperialism but I think the issue of climate change and being eco-friendly was in there too. I have to say that even though most of the movie was cgi I did not see one thing that looked fake and the 3-D was incredible!  Im goin again today with my girlfriend.

I loved it. Like RW said, the "message", so to speak, is just background noise. Anyone who applies the message to any current events does so at his own folly. Regardless of political affiliation, the corporation and army in the movie was obviously bad, and the natives good. There was no gray area. In real life, it's almost all gray area.

The visual effects were unbelievable, and some of the scenery gave me goose bumps. I agree - 3-D is the only way to go.

Oh, and -nick-: try $30 in CT for two of us! The price was almost as unbelievable as the scenery  ;D

1st movie in a long time actually worth going to the theatre to see

3d was really cool, my 1st 3d viewing at the theatre.

This movie was fantastic.

Although I'm a little uncomfrotable with the fact that I found the blue cat woman weirdly attractive :-/ ;D

Haha....I don't think you're the only one, I thought she was as Lt. Uhura but Neytiri was a whole different level.  Personally my favorite was the use of the colors, just brilliant.  The movie is just plain beautiful and the use of 3D is how it should be used, nothing flying at you but used for spatial visualization.

I found it as basically a live actionish version of Ferngully.

Yeah, I think certain people get that.  I know I felt my eyes adjusting when I first put them on, actually felt a little a little tension in my forehead.  Kind of felt like a little headache, but after 20 minutes in the movie it went away.  Makes me wonder if these 3d glasses are safe for your eyes.  I definitely wouldn't wear them a lot that's for sure.

The movie though was incredible!  It has a big meaning behind it, kind of what's going on today or even back in the past.  Reminds me of when our ancestors took the land away from Indians.  Then began our pollution of the earth!  I tell you, if were not careful we won't be able to fish in 10 years or so.  Be honest with you I'd rather have mother nature than our stupid electronics, but that's just me.

I loved the movie. I wish my theater had the non 3D one though. The 3D glasses really hurt my eyes.

Same here. 3D glasses = instant headache for me. Plus, it's not as if they actually make the movies look real, it just makes them look different than the normal movies. I prefer the way the normal movies look.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm in love with the Esurance animated woman.

Once you go blue, there's no other Hue...........

   Pretty clever there lol

Thanks for the chuckle

I don't mean to bring this thread back to life, but I watched the trailer and I just can't imagine this movie is that good.  I know, I know, you will say that I have to just go and see it, which I am trying to convince my wife in doing, but it still looks very odd (and as if us Americans are crazed conquerors).  Why couldn't it be the Russians who are the ones conquering foreign planets for resources (I remember growing up, the Russians were always the evil ones).

I know, I know, you will say that I have to just go and see it,

If you know, then why not post after seeing it?  ;)

I guess I am looking for encouraging words that this is not an Anti-American movie that both my wife and I will enjoy (since it will be about $25 for the both of us to see it)

Fourbizz posted the story. I chose to ignore the

politics and just enjoy the show. If you can't get

over that, you should not go.

I appreciate your honest and candid view. I guess I will see if I can convince my wife and if I can't, then no real loss. Thanks again.

Hmm...

Maybe it's "Moderator Magic". I can see it,

but you can't?  Anyhow, AVATAR is the story

of the Captain John Smith and Pocahontas.
