I just got my first pair on Saturday. Its a real trip, especially when I look down and try to walk at the same time. The guy at the eyeglass center said it would take two or three weeks to get use to them.

I had lasik surgey done due to near sightness about seven years ago and everything is A-OK.

When I first got by bi-focals, our bedroom was on the lower level of the house - that night when it was time to go to bed, I had to sit down and scoot on my butt to get down the stairs - it does get easier

There is bi focal and then there is progressive.  I have been wearing progressive since 1991, my first pair were terrible and I took them back after 2 days.  I went to another optometrist and these progressive had no adjust period, right from the start they were great.

Yes, it will take a week or two but once you get used to them you will love them.

I have trifocals and at first it was a disaster but now I cannot tell when I move my head to line up the view to see better.

I've been using progressives for quite a few years now.  No problems what-so-ever unless I'm in the recliner trying to watch TV. 

I think I have been needing them for the last year or so.  I either don't use glasses or switch to magnifiers for close stuff.

Yes you want to be careful for awhile.I use the Progressive's,like them alot.

I'm having trouble seeing my keyboard as I type this so bear with me. I have been using progressives for years and they took some getting used to. The biggest problem I have now is tying knots.

My biggest problem with bifocals or progressives is that I'm a lifetime pro/semipro bassist, and looking down at the neck of the instrument with either type of lens splits the neck in two, creating something that looks like a double neck instrument. I had to go back to single vision lenses for distance. My reading vision is still quite good without correction, and I only need magnification for precise up close work and for tying fishing line, so I get along just fine with drugstore reading glasses for these needs.

Same here.  Having to manage two pairs of glasses in the boat is a pain the.........BUTT.   I just hate having a lower lens when I'm flipping or doing things in the boat.

I don't need glasses to play bass and don't need to see where my fingers are.....  But when playing bass and having your hand and fingers appear to be in two different places is annoying

No, but I rarely see a sighted musician that doesn't look at what they're playing occasionally !

I'm not familiar with the Talkbass forum. I am also on the fishingclub.com and azbasszone.com forums though. Same posting name on those also.

I could never get used to bifocals, now I have 2 pairs of glasses...1 pair gets Thicker every year.. :'(
