i'm having some trouble mounting the scope on my airgun so it won't move around when i shoot.

the problem used to be it would slide back with each shot, but then i noticed this little thing ontop of the dovetail and i'm pretty sure you're supposed to put the scope in front of that to stop it from sliding back. so i did and that seemed to work.

but the damage is already done, on the part of the rear scope ring that actually grabs the dovetail, its really really ground down from sliding under pressure.

and i have another problem, the scope is rotating inside the rings!

any help? all of this movement is making it impossible to sight the gun in.

Perhaps tighten all mounting points?   :-?

If the scope is moving inside the rings, and you can't tighten it further, then take it out of the rings and put one (1) layer of black electical tape around the scope where the rings go around. This will increase the diameter a bit and give the rigs something to grab onto. Some ring manufacturers, like Millett, actually recommend this. I did this when I mounted a Weaver-brand scope in Millett rings for use on my Marlin 39A .22. That was nearly 20 years ago and the scope is still solidly mounted in the rings.

If the ring foot is worn down, you may have to replace that ring. Replace them both.

Airguns are notoriously hard on scopes. 

everything was tight, i think what i'll do is replace the rings, and try the electrical tape trick. should i use loctite on any of the screws?

I've used LocTite on scope base screws, but not on the ring screws.  But you don't have bases.  I think you are using tip-off rings?

Make sure when you use the electrical tape, you only use one layer.  No wrinkles.  And it will look better if you trim a strip of it so that it isn't so wide the edge sticks out from underneath the ring.   

Just use iron sights, unless you plan on shooting stuff more than 100 yards with it.

if the rings are sliding on your dovetail you need to try another set of rings.  if those do it the groove isnt right.

Sounds like a bad set of rings milled wrong if everything is tight.

What gun would be extremely helpful 

ah, yes, its a Daisy Powerline 1000. its not the best gun, its actually kinda junky. the trigger pull is ridiculously heavy (anybody know if/how i can change this?), the gun is very loud when shooting (not really a problem for me), and it has a lot of recoil for an airgun (which is why im having trouble with the scope). i'm sure the scope/rings are of inferior quality too.

im going to tape up these scope rings and try it again, because i think i have the scope staying put on the dovetail now that i put it ahead of that stopper thing. if it still doesn't work, im going to get new rings and put them in front of that stopper the first time around, so they don't get ground down again.
