Wyoming

Featured Replies

I just accepted a job in Wyoming. I will be conducting salmonid work throughout Wyoming, and living close to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Has anyone been there? I have heard it is beautiful.

Does anyone know how to survive the following attacks: Cougar, Black Bear, Brown Bear, Moose, and Wolf?

It looks like I will be hanging up my bass gear for awhile and take advantage of some famous trout waters.

What's wrong with a cougar attack?

When are you leaving?  Gotta do some fishing and buying before you take off...

;)

I spent the '03-'04 winter out there when my grandmother lived in Jackson Hole. It's absolutely gorgeous, and the skiing is amazing. They say it has some of the best lift-access terrain in the world.

The Snake River is also beautiful, and I heard the trout fishing is amazing.

Yellowstone - amazing. I just have nothing bad to say about the place, except that it gets pretty cold in the winter. I would love to go back in the late spring/early summer sometime.

Enjoy your time out there, and make sure you post some pictures for us.

Exactly.  A Trojan should cover those attacks shouldn't it?

I start work in June, but my whole month of May is ridiculous. I will be in Maine from May 8th to May 14th for survival class, graduate on May 15th, Texas collegiate tournament May 20th to May 28th then work in Wyoming. Just call or text me Wayne.

I guess surviving the cougar attack depends on the species of cougar. I am talking about the species thato will bite my face off.

Yea, there are some kinky ones out there. Ever see Hannibal?  lol

I dabble in a little wilderness survival. Regarding animal attacks. Most smaller animals like wolves and cougars can be scared off by pistol reports. Bears and moose are a little different. Anything short of a high powered rifle (read 30-06) is just going to make any of these animals mad, and more likely to attack. Making a large amount of noise, bear spray, and avoidance are the best methods. Most of these animals are just frightened or curious. Give them plenty of room to get away, make some loud noise, and you should be good to go.

What the hell kind of rodents do you have in OK?  Dang.

Note to self: Stay away from the mice in the midwest.

;D

I would hate to run into one of those mouse if anything short of a high powered rifle would make it attack.

Oh the typos... oh the typos... I may have to turn my mouse rifle on myself.  ;D

Drink some coffee. You're having a rough morning. lol

Lived out there for a short time. Beautiful place to live. Great trout fishing, hiking, skiing, hunting, ect. Generally nice people. Be prepared for a slightly slower pace when trying to get things done! Enjoy!

The 9 months I spent in Laramie were dark days. You have to forget your standards, or be lonely every weekend night, lol.

Cougar attacks are best treated and  with boxed wine, chocolate, and "I love Lucy" re-runs. Heavy compliments and reaassurance that "she's still got it," will also do wonders for the morning after.  That being said, heavy usage of potpouri will only entice the coug into further exploration, use at your own risk. Also, with cougars, especially out west, gags, rope ties and muzzles should not be discounted for proper "trapping." Use said techniques for the biters.

Ha, but on the subject of cougars; they get an automatic 2 points. Scenario:

Fried 1. "dude, she's like a 6.. at best."

Friend 2 "I just met her, she's 45, and separated.."

Friend 1 "oh man, easily an 8. Definitely an 8!"

Will I get rocks thrown at me if I use a spinning outfit?
