What's the best excuse you've ever given a family member for buying fishing stuff, even when they don't want you too?

I've told my parent's "It's not for me, its for the Bait Monkey."

and when my cousins were born - " I got it for them, I'm just gonna make sure all the plastics in the bag are quality for them"

And my favorite "Well mom, it's Dad's fault. He shouldn't have taken me to Bass Pro. You both know I have a problem."

The novel Silas Marner gave me my excuse. I just tell people I enter into a tackle sore, i go into weird trance. When I leave; I snap out of it. Whatever happens in between is not my fault. ;D

I don't need an excuse, my wife doesn't mind me buying tackle.

Excuse? I don't ask. I just buy what and when I want. If she don't like it then I simply drag her by her long hair into her closet and remind her of ALL the purses and shoes she has. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  And if they don't work then I move on to the 200 bras and 500 pair of panties.   ;D ;D

eh , no excuse besides the 'just because'. as long as i spend a little here and a little there , i stay out of trouble.  ;D

Ive not had an issue with the wife its the guys at work. They think Im nuts for spending $200 on a rod and $160 on a reel. Even when I buy lures, Im like hey guys I bought 3 frogs they are like, You're crazy just get crawlers :-? Then I feel the need to explain to them: That pack of smokes you just puffed away could have bought you a nice lure or over a year bought you a nice rod/reel combo. They dont say much after that.
