Who else has to be "on call" for their job ? Here is the first non blast furnace weekend in God knows how long and I can't fish because it's my week to be on call. >:(

I have about 8-9 weeks per year I have to do this.

Just venting. Guess I'll go cut the grass.

On call Monday. Double time if I get called out to work which isn't so bad.

I'm on call twice a week and one weekend a month. I'm used to it.

I work industrial construction at power plants and we have outages that last 6 to 12 weeks a few times a year. During the outages we normally work 6 to 7 days a week 12 hours a day. I understand not being able to fish and hunt when you really want to they always plan the outages around the best times to go.

I was on call at my very first job when I was 14.  I was supposed to call in at a certain time to see if they needed me.  I called in on time, they needed me, but I was five hours away with my buddy who was visiting his girlfriend, who happened to have a cute little sister.  I got fired.   ;D

I have a pager. Remember those?

I'm a commercial refrigeration mechanic. Got to keep those coolers and freezers running so you guys can enjoy a meal out. The company I used to work for I was a supervisor and I had to back up guys on weekends if it got too busy. I can't tell you how many times I was out on the boat fishing when I get a call saying "I need help!" Well, I used to hit the guys' egos calling them "woosies" etc. and saying "Don't you need the money?" I never had to leave the lake.

I really don't mind the extra work. I get a schedule quaterly so I can make plans around it.

"No money no honey"

I am on support for clients about every day of the week. Until last year I got ticked about it. I know WAY too many folks without jobs now to complain.

It sucks...but it still beats a kick in the ****

I'm a diesel mechanic. Our company has a contract with a major healthcare system for backup generator support 24/7/365 at hospitals throughout New Jersey.

Rest easy in ICU knowing I'm there... ;) ;D

On-call 3-4 weeks a year been on mandatory OT for like 4 weeks straight tho. Single male at home with the parents and the Fed takes nearly half my stuff :(
