I've been missing more fish then i'd like to on my buzzbaits, I'm considering a trailer but am concerned that I will get caught when I bring my buzzbait threw weeds. Looking for some advice guys and gals.

Are you possibly setting the hook on the sight or sound instead of when you feel the bass? The reason I ask is I just went through the same thing the other evening. It took me one fish to realize what I did wrong and corrected it on the next 3. The trailer hook couldn't hurt your odds. Pulling some weeds off is a minor deal (IMHO) if it means a few more bass!  

Its helped me to just not look at the bait while reeling. This slows down your reaction time just a second and usually by the time you realize something is up you are already hooked up.

No need for a trailer hook. As has been stated, wait until you feel the weight of the fish to set the hook. If you expect a strike, you won't be so surprised and quick to act. It just takes a little discipline.

Let em' drop with the bait, then drop them!  I use the Strike King (from Walmart) Chartruse with Red bleeder hook...caught more with that , than any other more pricy buzzer.  Just wait a bit next time, and once you get the pause, lights out!!!!

The fish in my profile pic was a buzzbait bass from Lake Champlain on the buzzbait I described.  we got fogged in at Ticonderoga, and hit this one about 50 yards from the launch.  Kerrrrrrrplunk!!!!!!

I have trailer hooks on most of my buzzbaits.  You'd be amazed at the amount of fish I catch with just the trailer hook in the top lip.  For some reason I get a lot of short strikes with buzzbaits and a trailer hook can really increase your odds of hooking up.  

As far as weeds go, the hook should run directly behind the other hook so it shouldn't cause any extra weed issues.

I always use a trailer hook on a buzzbait unless I'm fishing thick weedbeds. Using a softer, slower action rod also helps a lot when your using any topwater but ESPECIALLY buzzbaits. I like an ugly stik lite in medium spinning for my buzzbait work.

Bass will usually almost hook themselves on a buzzbait when they hit it directly. I usually just stop reeling when a bass hits, and if I feel the fish with the bait I will do a hookset.

What setup are you throwing? Rod, reel, line, lure...

You might just have a mismatch in equipment for that technique.
