It happens every year where i live winter comes and the carp and shad school up around warmer water discharges.

I'm not sure about the safety of walking on ice that already has cracks.

The ice will crack all winter long in different spots. It is all right as long as it is thick enough.

Cracking means its getting thicker, which is good.
