Anyone have any guidance on Zara Spook colors?

Featured Replies

With the Zara Spook, are we trying to 'match the hatch', or is the color meant to contrast- like the classic white/red scheme?

I'm going out and going to buy one tomorrow, just wondering if there was any sort of logic to color selection with these, or if it sort of ran the same as a crankbait color selection-

Thanks

Can't comment on the match the hatch question, just my experience.  I have fish the Leopard, Yellow, Blue & Silver, Black, Flitter (sparkle), and Clear colored Zara Spooks.  My most productive color is the Clear color.

can't provide anything except my experience, but I only use two spook colors - clear/baby blue and speckled trout. they're both saltwater lures, but I fish them in all waters, because they just produce the best for me. the only time I really find that topwater color matters much is when the sun is super bright on the area I'm fishing - in that case, I don't use anything that emits a ton of flash. (chrome or bright holographic colors...basically anything that hurts your eyes on certain angles when you're retrieving it)

hope this helps.  :-/

Haven't really noticed a difference in amount of fish caught with the different colors. I just buy salt water ones cause they got better hooks.

i like clear colors as long as the water isn't really dark. clear w/ green back or clear w/ blue work well for me generally

I'm partial to the jr myself and the clear and blue or clear and black is good. Last time I was at BPS wanted to try clear, all out ;)...

I've had my best success with the bone white and chrome/black back, usually in the smaller versions (I think it's called the Super Spook Junior).

Speckled Trout in the Saltwater version is what I use. Produces for me! Just remember to add a feathered rear hook.

What ever the best contrast in your particular situation might be.

Chrome/blue back, and frog. Lots of them have the same white belly meaning they catch us not the fish.

I have caught all of my fish on the baby bass color and the g-finish shad color.  I have also seen a lot caught on the blue shore minnow color too.  One color that I haven't even had as much as a hit on is bone.  I don't know why but they don't even look at this thing.

Have we missed any colors?

I own several colors  ;)

I tend to fish the frog pattern. I'm partial to green for all baits/ lures.

Bright clear days the clear is the one I have had the most success with. Other times most any color as long as it has a white belly and a light blue back.

I agree with RW. My best producer is the frog color Zara Spook.

I dont use a spook much but I use Torpedoes. My favorites are Baby Bass and Clear. I think I have about 8 Torpedoes in BB alone.

I only own one color in the Zara Spook series of baits and that is the silver flitter color.  It has been very good for me.

My home lake is one of the best top water lakes in the country. Walking lures are king around here. My #1 Spook color is clear. The reason for clear is that I don't want the bass to get a good look at the lure I just want them to attack where they see the splash. I do put a red treble hook on the front to give them something to aim at but that's it. My favorite spook is the Super Spook Jr.

i'll add another good one.chartreus,i use it in muddy and really dark water.i also use a black w/ white stripes,i also have the baby bass and a few others

Predatory fish can better see a white lure's silouette on a clear day, and a black lures silouette on a cloudy day. Most of my topwaters are either primarily white or black.
