I'm thinking of jumping onto the smartphone bandwagon and I'm trying to decide on which phone.. Mine phone actually available for upgrade soon and I thought about getting iPhone through Verizon. I was just wondering what are the usual costs for Apps for both iPhone and Androids? They are just a one time cost, correct?

For those of you with iPhone, if you're playing a game and someone sends you a text it will not int erupt your game, right?

Wal-Mart has a Straight Talk phone card that has unlimited text, talk, and data and I might wait until mine contract expired and go that route. Someone told me I could used an android with this phone card, can anyone verify it?

I went with the Droid 2 Global from Verizon about a month ago and am 100% satisfied.  I had ruled out an iphone a year ago after playing around with my s-i-l's.  Check out wirefly.com have unbeatable prices and service.  They are a regular distributor just like the Verizon, ATT, Tmobile stores but phones are 1/3 the price.

I jumped in and then out again.  had an Htc Incredible for 3 weeks, then a Samsung reality for 3 hours, returned them.  Both phones had poor earpiece clarity, a few other things bothered me as well. Went back to my flip phone and the earpiece clarity is excellent.  All that said I may go back and try another one soon.

No seriously, go play with both kinds. Make sure you try multiple droids. Motorola and Htc make the best right now.

As far as comparing them, they are pretty darn close. Some like android, some iOS... Apps are pretty much the same anymore, most people are developing for both.

I just lost my Ipod so i think I am going to get the Iphone 4 with verizon since i have an upgrade. I am going to give it to my wife when the iphone 5 comes out this summer. She doesn't care what kind of phone it is as long as FB works. I like the droids and how their screens or backgrounds are so customizable but all my computers are apple so an iphone makes sense.

I wonder how many people are going to be returning their droids in for iphones with verizon. I think anyone who bought a smartphone since october can bring them back.

I don't think I'll be able to transfer songs from mine ipod to the iphone should I get it...I might go with one of the droids because of the physical keyboard instead of just the pure touchscreen. Is the Angry Bird available for Droid? the iPod touch is awesome and it's basically just like iPhone minus the actual phone part...

Droids are faster and smarter.Atleast if you're on Verizon. The only thing i think the iPhone has on the Droids are that they have a better screen pixel thing.Like the little app box things and all the color really pops. And longer battery life.

I have the Droid 2. I love it so much haha. It also smokes the iphone in ways to text. I can use the actual keyboard, the touch screen keyboard, the normal touch text thing when you're holding the phone normally,swype, or i can talk and it will write down what i say

Yeap that's how I take fishing notes. Hit 1 button and start talking. It's right about 98% of the time.

And yes angry birds is on android and it's free.

Yep, the voice to text and swype apps are what I use the most.  That, and the built-in GPS w/Google maps. Now if only they came with a depthfinder....

My wife and I recently left AT&T for Sprint so that we could make the jump to Android. We both have the EVO 4G and could not be happier. I love the android.

I honestly thought about trying to create a USB transducer and finding a way to make that work... Maybe I'll submit that to Googles Summer of Code and get a team of smart people to help 

I can get the Droid 2 from Verizon for 49.99 which is certified pre-owned. I'll just have to add the data plan to my monthly phone bill. I dropped mine phone last night in water...It was only in water for two seconds but it still glitchy. I left it in a bag of rice last night, but it vibrating for no reason....Crap....I didn't hurt mine phone intentionally so I would have an excuse for a new phone. I swear. lol.

Or you can get an Android phone from T-Mobile for free.  They have at least 10 different Android phones to choose from - some of them are free, and some are even 4G.  Verizon has....well....the Droid.  They also lock you into a 2 year agreement where you can't upgrade until the end of the contract.  Oh, and none of their phones are 4G.

50 bucks for a used phone, slower speeds, and a restrictive contract?  Makes sense if you don't think about it. 

Makes since if you live in an area where you can't get Tmobile coverage especially data coverage, which would be most any rural area of the country.

Looking at Tmobile data map they have very little very fast coverage a little more fast 3G coverage with most data being Edge. Best I can tell even the 4G only works in your home area if you do much traveling expect to be on slow Edge. 

I'm an IT dude... I choose the DROID 2 over the iphone due to a variety of reasons.

Of course its rooted which is the best part about the phone. 

Well, before you assume anything, check your coverage - and by that, I mean don't go off of what you knew last year or the year before. T-Mobile spent 3X as much as the others building out their network recently. So you may have coverage now when you didn't before. And even if you don't have coverage at your home, you can connect via wifi (all Android phones have wifi) directly on your Internect connection (which is also free calling). And no, 4G works wherever they have it regardless of where your home is. No extra fees for roaming.

T-Mobile just doens't have very good coverage in my area.  I have been thinking about expanding my options when my contract is up with Verizon in the next few months, but unfortunately, they still appear to be my best option.

T-Mobile don't have 4G in my area. Knoxville is the closest area and I go to school nearly 2.5 hours away.

I'm trying to find out when my contract expired on my online account on Verizon. Verizon does have the best coverage in this area.

They do have two year contract, but my contract allows my phone be upgrade before my contract is out.... I've had same contract for a while already had one upgrade. I'm due for another one soon. I think my contract ends sometimes this summer or next fall, I'll have to double check soon as I can find it.

Yep, they've changed it.  You have to wait 20 months after your renewal before you can upgrade now.
