Another Jig Question

Featured Replies

So i been fishing a jig a lot this year. Well most of my fish have been coming in about 10 feet of water and some around 15 feet but most are in 5 to 12 foot of water. Is there any way to really tell what size jig i should be throwing for these bass. What would be a good size to throw.

I would say to throw larger jig trailers. The larger the bait the larger the fish. From what i have found anyways.

Depending on the movement of water is the way I determine what size jig to use. I like to stick with 1/4oz jigs. for ponds and lakes but rivers i use a 1/2oz jig. I like to feel the bottom when fishing a jig. the larger the trailer you put on the jig the larger the fish has to be to eat it.

Good luck to you!!! :)

I prefer to fish the lightest jig the water depth and wind will allow.......Al

When I use a jig I am usually power fishing so I prefer a heavier weight. I like to have it drop quick, if no reaction strike, hop it a couple times and wind it in.

When I am fishing deeper structure I will downsize a little bit and slow the presentation down.

Anything 15-20fow or less I typically throw a 3/8-1/2 oz jig. 15-20fow + I'll step up to 3/4. is kind of a standard I use unless there is matted grass or weeds. Then you may have to alter your presentation.

I have been know to throw a 1oz in 1-4fow and a 5/16 in 35fow.

I don't look at water depth but ROF (rate of fall) & I let the bass can tell me if the ROF is correct or not  :)
