How to tell a stocked trout from a natural trout?

Featured Replies

How is it that some of you guys can tell the difference between the two.  What are some things to look for to distinguish the two?

Thanks.

Stocked trout usually have stout or deformed fins. (rainbows)

They also are very easy to catch because they have been fed all their live.

There is a very noticable color difference. When you catch a native tout you can tell right away. They are beautifu.

My earliest memories of wild trout were from when I was about six.  Even then I knew they were wild right away.  With those long perfectly formed fins and their vivid colors, they stood out like little freshwater sharks.
