If they are grass carp not regular carp try a jitterbug. that is a little trick that I learned while fishing for bass in my neighborhood pond once. The carp think that it is a cicada on the surface and just crush it like a bass would.

If jitterbugs work then this definately will: Daiwa Drown Cicada

Wild looking lures

I finially caught one about 40+ pounds off of bread, A neighbor lady threw bread out for the ducks and the carp started eating the slices floating on top , so I went home and got my bait pole with 8 pound test and threw a doughball out where they were feeding  and bam one run with it . It was a heckuva fight on a 12 dollar pole and 8 pound test.

here are a couple pics they arent good as I was fighting the fish and trying to snap pics ,

I am not sure about conventional baits but if you have a flyrod you can catch them on olive colored nymphs, wooly buggers and sometimes even dry flies. Some people even tie "grass" flies. Hooking a big White Amur on a 4wt fly rod is a lot of fun. There is a park that has a bunch and once the sun starts setting they will come up to the banks to feed and if you get the fly close to where they are heading you can usually trick one. I was casting to one last summer and I didn't realize his buddy was right next to him and when the fly line went across his back the water just exploded. When I retrieved my fly there was a scale about the size of a quarter through the hook

BK, did you land that carp? That thing is huge!  Nice pics.  I had one once about that size that was 3 feat from shore and the hook popped out.  I had hooked it on just some leaves and a hook!  ;D

Those pics dont do him real justice I should have got him onshore and took pics

I did one of those umm saltwater leader release landing things lol ;D I had him to the bank and was fumbling around taking pics and holding my rod in one hand and kicking my shoes off when I should have been getting him outta the water and he snapped my line . I was using a cheap push button reel and a bream rod and 8 pound test , it was one heckuva fight. I would have had to wade out and scoop him up to get him becuse he was far to big to try and beach with my rod.

It was a a real fight it took close to 10 minutes to get him in. I would get him near the bank one he would make runs back out deep he did that about 4 times stripping line . He was over 3 feet long and wasnt the biggest I have seen here there are a few that are 4 plus feet and I figure about 60 pounds

That had to be a good fight!  Im suprised that line held up as long as it did!  :o  I can't imagine how hard a four footer would fight!  Ive seen several before that looked to be 4 feat or bigger.  I plan to catch one sometime.

While i was working on a golf course i saw a guy catch a big carp on popcorn.

The grass carp on the lakes we fished would eat the fresh grass clippings that floated on the surface (after the homeowners cut their grass).  We would float blades of grass on a small hook and wait for the carp to inhale it!  Glad to see the dough balls worked!  :)
