Personal Best Redfish

Featured Replies

I caught this bad boy yesterday on a trip down to the coast. I do quite a bit of inshore saltwater fishing, but I have never caught one this big. All together we ended with 25 speckled trout, 15 white trout, 15lb redfish, 20lb redfish, 34lb 19lb 17lb and 15lb black drums. It was so windy and we found this protected area with tons of bait activity and just wore out the big dogs. I had a blast.

This redfish went 37 inches and 20lbs even (Sorry about the poor quality it was taken on a camera phone)

Sounds like you might be pretty sore from all the reeling! Nice big red there! :) What did she hit?

Awesome!

I caught her using a 3" Gulp! new penny shrimp on a 1/4oz jig head.  Something about that gulp just drives the reds nuts.  Yeah my arms were pretty sore, but I am still young so that went away quickly.  I got her at the taxidermists right now getting ready for the wall.

Very nice!!! The bigger reds are starting to move into the rivers here.

I go to Venice, La several times a year and that GULP is the real deal! It outfishes everything else nearly 2 to 1.

Awesome fish!!! I caught one an inch shorter than  that last March with my camera sitting on the dock!!!!!! >:(

There is nothing like redfish IMO. Rodbending, aggressive, and great to eat.

Gulp and gold spoons are the staples of my redfish arsenal.  Venice is the mecca of redfish and monster trout.  We were down in Port Fourchon when I caught this beast.  I love catching big fish on light tackle.  I was using a new Curado 200E7, 17lb trilene, and a 6'8" G-Loomis Mossback medium action.  10 plus pound reds on bass tackle is something everyone needs to experience.

The drum were caught on live shrimp on a carolina rig.

Well my personal best redfish only lasted a week.  Today I topped the personal twice!!  I landed a 42 inch 22lb red, and a 44 inch 23.5 lb red.

I hooked up on the 23 and fought her for about 5 minutes then passed the rod to the wifey so she could fight the fish.  Man the look on her face made the trip.  As the drag screamed her smile got bigger and bigger.  Great stuff.
