Walleye in NWMO

Featured Replies

Hey guys, looking for some info on targeting walleye, never caught one before and don't really know where to start.  I will be fishing from the bank to start off, but will be bringing up a 14ft jon boat with a 5hp and trolling motor in a couple of weeks.

So what are some of the tactics that you guys use from shore and the boat.

I will be fishing Mozingo Lake in Northwest Missouri if that is any help.

Thanks for the help

Mike I feel your pain and wish some walleye guys would respond.  I'm going down to a reservoir this week to catch (attempt) walleye and am pretty clueless. As of now I plan on dragging cranks and minnow plastics around structure in 5-10ft of water to get a reaction hit.  Who knows the results. I'll let you know.

I dont get them often, but the walleye I have caught are all on Live minnows, Crankbaits, and I got this 20 incher on a booyah boogie bait.  I was very suprised with this little guy.

I've always done well trolling weedlines with a lindy rig. 10-15' feet deep. Once  you find them then hit the area with jigs and cranks. Switch between worms, leeches and minnows on the lindy until you find what they want. If your fishing from shore find a point near a creek or a river with some deep water close. That will be the spot to be at dawn or dusk. Good luck.

i don't do too much walleye fishing from shore, but basically we look for ledges and pull lindy rigs around.  This works well early season, later on we do more jigging.
