Whats the best rigging for crappie fishing? Live minnows or lure, if so what type, color, how to rig my pole ect.. Thanks  D.

Light line is a must. 4# mono will do. They will eat minnows, but they will have to be smaller ones.

I catch a lot of crappie on 1/16 oz jigheads with small plastic baits. Yum makes some awesome 1.5" to 2" grubs and tubes that are deadly.

Another technique is a jig under a float. Rig a jig like described above under a float. This works good on slightly windy days when there is a chop on the surface. You may have to adjust the depth several times until you get dialed in. Crappie feed from the bottom up, in other words they usually attack their prey from below.

Crappie are fun on an UL set up with 4# mono.  Neon green grub seems to do the best for me.

   Get yourself some 8lb mono or 30lb. braid, bobber stops, slip bobbers, #4 lightwire aberdeen hooks and 2 dozen minnows. Go to your favorite lake, find a bridge and fish the pilings. Locate the crappie by tightline jiggin' your minnie, then set your bobber to that depth. Also, try submerged brushpiles in 6-15 ft of water. In spring, try as shallow as three. Once you find the productives spots in your lake, try usin' artificials like chin spinners,curlytails ect. One of the most exciting ways I've used is flippin' and casting a 1/8oz. Blue Fox chin spinner in firetiger. Bluegill, Crappie and Bass.

You'll catch all the crappie you want if you use two lures. Both on a 1/16 oz. jig head. First is a 2" curly tail and second is a tied chenelle body & marabou tail. The marabou will take your cold water crappie and the curly tail will take care of them in the warmer seasons. 4# test line on a long rod will do you just fine.

The big money around here for crappie dudes has gone to the guys using the Wally Marshall rigs trolling cranks on 2# line.  That and the big guru using 1# line over brush piles.

All good advice.  The Blakemore Roadrunners do really well too.  Especially the Crappie Thunders.  Seem to have really good luck with the black/chartreuse ones.

ive had luck with smaller floating rapalas.

F03's and F05's. either black and gold or black and silver. they nail them in the private pond i fish. to get deeper , i throw on a split shot about 10 inches up from the lure.

Here's what I and about 90% of the people on Lake Okeechobee use.  10-12' crappie pole, #8 mono, Aberdeen hook, small split shot about 8 inches above the hook, cork and Missouri minnows.

Roadrunner jigs work exceptionally well also.
