Got to my favorite spot at 4:30 this morning, was dead.  Starts to get light about a 5:45 and the bait is everywhere, caught a few tiny snook and then I get slammed, 5 minutes later my line snaps.  Retied a new leader put a new xrap on my 20lb class rod 4000 fi and 15# test PP and casted into the current................BAMMMMMMMMMM!  A poon and not a juvy either, who knows how long but finally get it along side the pier.  One of the guys goes down on the ledge to remove the hook and the consensus from the observers this bad boy goes 50 -60#, my best this year.

Alright! Nice.  I'd say you had to work him hard to keep from getting spooled or wrapped in something . The fact that you were not in a boat or using live bait and heavy gear makes it especially cool.

What is a poon? I searched google for it and though I got some cool results I don't think thats what you hooked into..

Congrats!  You're have become a pier rat in no time at all.  How about I meet you in the morning and I'll bring the camera to show these guys what it's all about down here in S. Florida during the summer?

Local jargon.......this is what we call a goggle eye down here in FLA, not the goggle eye you folks are used to.

Bait fish for sailfish, they get 10 bux a piece for them.

I have probably been on the pier with you. I have been going in the AM 2-3 times a week. Yesterday the (poons) were going off like crazy for about an hour or so after daybreak, you could look straight down and see them spinning around sucking down as many mullet as possible. I couldn't get any takers, although I did manage 1 very nice Mack around 3.5#. A few nice snook were taken yesterday also. A week ago I got a blue that was around a foot or so and he was hooked fairly deep, when i finally got him unhooked I threw him back and watch as a 50" snook came up immediatly and took care of that blue if you know what I mean. If I knew what you looked like I would say hello to ya. Heres what I look like.

I know you must be talking about Juno, I've only been there twice and fished the beach only.  I was there early this week and it was dead ( dead down here in Boynton as well), I did see all those tarpon jumping way out of casting range.

I may go up there Mon or Tues, I get there about 5 am.
