White Bass in Stained Water - Tips? Tricks?

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Going fishing this weekend at a lake that has a pretty good White Bass bite going on. It's a water supply for a small nearby city with stained water. Visibility around 3 ft maybe. Not much for largemouth as far as size. I would appreciate any advice on what works best for them. I've caught a few on a Northland Mimic Minnow but nothing that they really hammered.

Thanks!

J.

White single tail grubs on a jig head; silver/black jerkbaits

or just a Rapala original floater; Silver Buddy; Cordell Gay

Blade; Little George; Swarming Hornet/ Lake Fork Tackle

Live Magic Shad.

If none of that works, live baby crawdads ALWAYS work!

I don't target white bass per se, but fish for them opportunistically wherever I see a breaking school or working birds.

The same as Roadwarrior, all we've ever used was a 3-inch "white" single-tail curly grub (1/8oz ballhead jig).

I'm the last guy to get hung-up on color, but for some reason white bass show a marked preferrence for "white".

I suppose it's because they spend their lives looking upward at the "white bellies" of baitfish schools.
