Carp! HELP?

Featured Replies

So I live in the desert now of Nevada - NO BASS

But I have found a little part of the Humboldt River that opens up to a (Semi) dam, and there are CARP

So I guess im now fishing for carp. Have caught a few and am looking for big uns. Only 5 Carp at this time and all were 2-4 lbs just little ones but I can see them jump EVERYWHERE.

Any Recomendations - how can you tell if there are larger ones in the area im fishing? I have just been using my Shamano Symetry FJ on Medium action Quantum Rod, 8lb Pline Riged with a 1/4-1/2 Oz sinker (depending on wind) small glass bead (To not damage the Swivle) than a #10 Swivle where ill palmer knot a #4 Eagle claw (with the leader alredy attached)

Worms have been my bait but im looking up some Dough ball Recipees as I type this - Anyone give me some more pointers?

Are they like bass who hang arround structure or just swim the bottom of the pond / River

I haven't fished for carp in probably 20 years (guessing I was about 7 or 8) but I used to catch them on a balled up piece of white bread (not the whole piece, just a little ball) and corn.

I have no recipes, as I use corn exclusively. I've seen plenty caught by guys who use Wheaties or Bran Flakes. They take a handful, immerse, then squeeze out the extra water until it's the consistency they want.

I use an egg sinker or slip sinker 12-18" up the line, with a BB shot below it, and fish with the bail open. The fish can pick up the bait and move off without feeling resistance. Watch the line very carefully for movement.

I fish for carp sometimes and ive always used corn and its always been really good. I usually throw a few handfuls out while im rigging up but i guess that may not work if there is a lot of current. but like marty said you should use a slip sinker because i know the bigger and smarter carp can drop it if they feel weight.

YOU COULD LEARN TO TIE THE HAIR RIG, IT WORKS BETTER THAN THE CAROLINA.

YOU CAN GO TO "BIGCARPTACKLE.COM" TO GET ANYTHING YOU NEED FOR CARPING.

USE CORN, OR PURCHASE BOILIES.

GOOD LUCK , THEY GET HUGE.

whatever you do DO NOT TRY TO EAT THE CARP!!!  nasty stuff.  We caught a couple last summer and friends of mine thought they wanted to try it fried up.  Didn't taste good at all to me anyway.  That's just my opinion though. :o

Some guys chum the water before fishing. They'll use slingshot rigs to toss chum creating a scent trail leading to within casting distance. For chum and bait mix kool aid powder with the bran flake balls mentioned earlier. Cheese and corn also work.

Thanks guys this is helping. I just got back from Reno where I went to cabellas an picked up a Quantum reel and ultra light pole I'm rigging with P line 6lb test. Found a cool strawberry dough recipe I'm going to attempt to make and hit up the river tonight so ill let yall know how it goes. Ill have to post the recipe later as I'm posting from my crackberry now. Again thanks for the advice

you make boillies. fish them with sinker and hook cast it out let it sink and wait thats it! to make boilies best way to learn is watch youtube just search how to make carp boillies or how to make carp bait. carp rigs on youtube search is also helpful

They're really fun to catch on fly rods if your into that. If you see any cruising around the surface, they'll usually eat about any kind of wet fly. Fun stuff.
