Sebile Magic Swimmer 125

Featured Replies

I finally got a chance to use my first Sebile yesterday and it wasn't good. I was throwing it on 12lb fluorocarbon, the action was awesome but the dang thing doesn't sink fast enough. Where I was fishing was below the lock and dam, there are rocks about 2-4 feet under the water and the this is where those big spots are. The current, choppy water and this slow sinking lure didn't work together.

First how can I make this thing sink quicker?

Second, I hate this fluorocarbon line, I got it hung up on small limb, I could see it sticking out of the water, I pulled it moderatetly and snap. I said "wow" this is supposed to be strong than mono, well I learned quickly it wasn't. I had made about 10 cast when this happen, I checked for weak spots about 2 cast prior to this and my line was smooth so I don't know. I do know that I will not waste another $20 on this mess, I'll stick with my Trilene XT and XL.  :P

Just use a slower retrieve. I use yo zuri hybrid and haven't had any problems.

I've only fished mine in shallow still water but it works good for that. Probably stick to other lures in strong current. Also try pline cxx its as tough as line gets.

I tried a slower retrieve but when I did this the lure didn't have the action it did when retrieving a little faster. I will say this, this Sebile Magic Swimmer should be a killer in clear water.

What flouro were you using? You should try Seaguar Carbon Pro though I don't prefer flouro for lures with treble hooks. You also need to tie the right knot with flouro.

Do not use a palomar knot with Fluoro either, believe me....I learned the hard way ::P. I haven't broken a fish off yet with the san diego jam knot. *knock on wood*

ps make sure to wet your line VERY well.

I was using 12lb Berkely Trilene Flurocarbon with a clinch knot. I dipped it in the water before pulling it tight.

I just can't use it anymore, I've never had issues with the XL and XT from Trilene. I've actually had to cut the XT Trilene 14lb test because I couldn't get it to snap lol.

Mono will float, flourocarbon will sink. I was a diehard fan of Trilene XT & XL in my past also, still use it on some occasions. I have never had my line snap/break at the knot using flouro and I understand the palomar is not the best for Flouro or braided lines, but it works for me...

The Sebile: I have recently bought my first and had the same experience (in still water) you must maintain a certian retrieve speed for it to operate correctly and it always seemed to wake. This was on 12 lb Seaguard flouro. I haven't tried it in the current yet but i can understand your issue. Against the current isn't natural, with the current and you must burn it for it to operate.

My suggestion:

Have you tried the old timers trick -no pun intended- of weighting the hooks down with weight/wire? This may not solve your retrieve problem but should help the sink rate...Make sure to tune for buoyancy

Or you might want to try the 165. It's heavier, hence it runs deeper. Don't worry about the size of the bait, you'll still catch 2-3lb. fish with it.

I have had the same experience. Really dont like the Magic Swimmer, but I would like to try the 165 version.

Sebile has several models os the Magic Swimmer.  Not al may be out on the market yet though.  Some models will be standard and others will be faster sink models.

For current applications such as yours, a faster sink model may be in order.

I have 4 of the Magic Swimmers, what I did with one of them is drill holes in all 3 sections and fillled it with mineral oil. It looked good in the water but I still haven't caught anything yet. Another expieriment that I'm doing is I took a lip off a Bagley Crank and put on a Jackall Giron, I'll let you guys know after I give them a fair chance how my results turn out.

I think I'm just going to use my Basstrix swimbaits because I can choose what weight I need. I just can't waste another dollar on these Sebile's. They sink too slow and are over priced. The 125's are the right size, they just need to be heavier.

How much $$$ do you want to take them off your hands?   :P

Like someone mentioned earlier - - try wrapping some lead wire around the front hook.   Common practice in crankbait circles.
