What size/style hook should I use, if I move up to 8-10 inch power worms or zoom trick worms???

I use 3/0-4/0 hooks for all types of soft plastics. I fish alot of 10-12" worms and I use 4/0 hooks for them.

I think anything larger than 3/0 would be too large and heavy for a Trick Worm.

I use 3/0 wide gap for just about everything except frogs and Rage Tail Shads.

I use #3 red EWG Gamakatsu for everything under 7.5", #4 for everything over 7.5".

6/0-7/0 Gamakatsu EWG Monster hooks, a great heavy wire hook for big senkos and 10inch worms.

OR

11/0 Oversize wormhook for 10+ inch worms.

Owner makes a nice hook and the 11/0 is no exception.

I have used 5/0 EWG Superline hooks by Gamakatsu for trick worms and have had no problems catching bass

All my soft plastic hooks are Gamakatsu EWGs, I use the standard ones for GP use, the super lines for flipping with heavy braided line, and the skip gaps for dock skipping.

This Is just my general size/bait preferance.

1/0 finnesse worms, weedless split and drop shot rigs

2/0 small Jr. super flukes 3" beavers, small craws

3/0 4" Senkos, Trick worms,Super Flukes, 6" lizards, 3.5" tubes

4/0 5' Senkos, 4" beavers and craws 7.5" worms, 4" tubes

5/0 6" senkos, 5" beavers, 10" worms, frogs, brush hogs

The best way to determine proper hook size for a bait is to put the hook next to the bait and see if it will have enough bite.  Also consider the weight of the hook and whether it will make a difference is it interferes with the action of the bait.

I nose hook flukes with 1/0 or 2/0 Owner Mosquito and weedless with a 4/0 or 5/0 Owner Wide Gap +.  

For 5" Senkos, I use the same Mosquitoes, but weedless I use a 3/0 Owner Round Bend worm hook.

I usually DS, wacky rig, wacky jig, or shaky head Trick Worms.  For DS, its Owner 1/0 Mosquito or 1/0 Owner Down Shot Offset hook.  1/0 for wacky rigs. I use Zappu and Gammy flick shake jigs for wacky jigging, and Bagley, Spot Remover Pro, and Giggy heads for shaky heads.  If I were to t-rig a Trick worm, a light wire 2/0 or 3/0 round bend hook would work just fine.

For 10" Power worms, I use 4/0 Owner J Bend worm hooks.

I don't really lump Trick worms and 10" Power Worms in the same profile category.  The Power Worms are a lot bigger than Trick Worms.

Pretty much the same, but for big worms I sometimes use a Gamakatsu 5/0 Offset Round Bend.

Exellent thread with some great info!! It would make a good sticky.

My "rule of thumb" is one size up for 2 inches up. Let me explain: for a 6" worm i divide 6 by 2, wich gives 3, that means 3/0. Similarly for a 4" worm you will get 2/0. And so on.

I will downsize when using a "skinny" bait like a finess worm and up-size for a more bulkier/ meatier bait like a Senko, usually one size. for example, I'll go down to 1/0 on a finess worm; and I'll go up one size on a 6" senko ( 4/0). Most of the times I'm using Gamakatsu EGW, sometimes roundbent offset Gammies.

You have to take in consideration the average size of the fish you reasonably expect to catch.
