7 inch worm vs 10 inch worm

Featured Replies

I do not fish a plain old 7 inch ribbon tail worm much anymore, but every time I do lately, it's been frustrating.  I catch nothing.  I get bites, but its just bream pecking at the tail.  Nobody else I fish with has problems getting fish on this lure, just me.

So I switched to a 10 Culprit worm, and all of the sudden, I am doing great on them.  I am doing nothing different, same colors, same t-rig with a screw in weight, same line size, same rod.  does the 2.5 to 3 inches really make that much difference?  Anyone else having this experience?

Apparently it does; always let the bass tell you what they want   :P

It's all a matter of profile. Using a smaller size worm doesn't mean that bigger bass won't bite. However, it has great appeal to smaller species. An increased profile will probably diminish the appeal to baitfish.

Are you fishing these worms in the same waters where you normally throw the smaller one? I have recently switched to using the bigger ones because I feel the fish are tired of seeing the same old ones in the places I fish.

I also find the size of some of these tiny fish that try to cram a behemoth worm down thier gullet is amazing. Try a 12 inch once just for kicks. 8-)

Yeah, same waters.  Dunno, it produced this morning too.  I gave the same color, same manufacturer 7.5 inch worm a try, and nothing.  Guess it's 10 inchers from now on.

Funny thing is that one day they will stop on the color and size your using now and only hit a 4 or 6 inch ;D

Like Catt said, let them tell you. When the bite fails try something else.
